So I've had my PC for almost a year now, and this seems like an appropriate time to start thinking about some kind of upgrades.
My PC isn't the best, but I'm not looking to spend thousands of pounds either. And I'm pretty happy with some of the things I have, so I'm only looking to upgrade a few parts.
Introducing...The Cheap Git (Only cost around £250 - £300)
What I have now:
Case - CiT Mars with Blue LED Fans
Motherboard - BIOSTAR TA790GXB3
Power Unit - Some kind of cheap 500W I got as a starter
Processor - AMD Athlon II x2 250 (Was just to get me by before I decided to upgrade)
Processor Fan - Stock
Graphics Card - Radeon HD 6770
Hard Drive - 1 TB I picked up from Amazon on the cheap, never had a problem though
CD Drive - From old Family PC, still uses IDE ;_;
RAM - Regular 8GB DDR3 533mhz (2x 4GB)
Fans - 2 Blue LED Case fans, one at front, one at back.
This has served me well for the past year, but I've decided to change some bits around.
Now, I don't have a lot of money, and I don't want to spend a crap load...but I am willing to hear suggestions on what to buy.
I'm only looking to upgrade a few things, seeing as I'm quite happy with the rest of it.
So here is a list:
Case
I've wanted a new case for a while, but I'm not sure what to get. I'm quite picky when it comes down to how it looks to be honest, but I want something reasonably big, and good for my money.
I really like the look of the NZXT Phanton or the Thermaltake Chaser MK-1. But these are both quite expensive IMO and I'm not sure whether they are good for my money or not?
I would like some kind of nice looking case, that is quite spacey, but possibly cheaper than £100? If not I may just go for the Thermaltake one.
EDIT:
Just found the Thermaltake one on Amazon, with built in Liquid cooling. But it's over £200 Link was huge.
Processor
As I said, the CPU I initially bought was just to get me buy until I decided it was time to upgrade.
Like before, I want a CPU that works well, and can handle things like editing videos and that kind of stuff. Again, I would prefer it to be not too expensive...maybe somewhere around £70 - £80
Processor Fan
I've heard you only really need a different fan if you Overclock, and I'm not really planning to Overclock, so obviously Stock would probably do me just fine.
But I would be willing to buy a Fan just to keep my CPU extra cool, maybe something around £20.
Motherboard
Depends on what Processor I get...If I plan to get say..a Bulldozer, or am Intel Processor, then I would obviously need a new Motherboard.
But I would prefer to stick with AMD, and maybe get a Phenom, depends if I can get a Bulldozer or something else better for a nicer price.
Power Unit
For some time I have really wanted a Modular Power Unit.
Are they any good? Are they worth it? What do you guys think?
Should I just get a regular Power Unit, or are there decently priced well working Modular ones out there?
CD Drive
I don't exactly use the CD Drive, but the IDE cable drives me nuts.
Just looking for a decent cheapish CD Drive that works and has a SATA cable, I've seen Blu-Rays go for around £20 so should I just pick one of those up?
Any Ideas are welcome. Honestly I just want to see what you guys can suggest for a cheap git such as myself
Also, should I go ahead and buy another 8GB of RAM? I've heard that your computer can be much faster at 16GB since it renders the page file redundant.
EDIT:
Sorry for the really long thread...I can type for England :p
