In need of some ideas

Honestly I'm really considering that Thermaltake one..It looks nice IMO and seems like a decent enough size.
I think I may look around for some reviews.
But, what have you done to them to make them die?

Not really going to look into Overclocking just yet, I'm fine with regular speed on stuff :P
That CPU looks a lot more like the kind of thing I want.
Cheaper on Amazon so I might get it on there :P

My pure copper Thermaltake Heatsink+fan died in 3 months they didn't replace it.
A PSU I bought was rated for 430w was more like 390w
That Pissed me right off, the fact it was rated higher and the shitty CustomerSupport. I'll never support 'em.

But that case looks nice. Wouldn't bother with Liquid cooling if you are not OCing.

Oh, well that's good then.
I only use a stock fan so I wasn't sure if bigger ones would come with anything to stop it dragging down.
That one looks quite reasonable, I'm guessing it's suitable for the CPU you chose for me, other wise you wouldn't have linked it xD

So...the big question.
Since I'm buying stuff...Should I upgrade from 8gb to 16gb of RAM?

Wouldn't bother with the RAM unless you start video editing shit loads.

Phenom II X6 is a beast at video encoding but they were all discontinued at the end of last year and got rare here pretty fast so I'd be wary of random online shops claiming to have them in stock. Either way an AM3+ board is the way to go, it's backwards compatible with Phenom II chips, provides the latest gear (eg. SATA III & USB 3.0) and has a way better selection in the sub-$150 range than Intel mobos.

The good news is ATI cards are pulling ahead of nVidia offerings lately so an AMD board with CrossFire support will work out nicely. Having said that, my AM3+ board has two nVidia cards and it works great with those too despite lacking SLi support.

Modular PSU is definitely worth it IMHO because you don't need to have unused cables taking up space in your case and blocking airflow (bugs the shit out of me, at least).

Honestly, that case you guys were talking about looks great.
Which one? :p
The 900 2 is a sick case, around probably 100 pounds, not sure the conversion...
It's just under £90 on Amazon.
It seems cool...but a bit too...chunky.
Is it like a smaller version of Olst's? if looks like it.
Your processor is kind of weak and for 70-80 pounds you can get something wtih an unlocked multiplier that you can overclock, but then you need cooling
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
That's the CPU that Cock linked xD
Think that is the one I will choose.
Best bang for your buck cooling as far as I'm concerned is...
http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6603
Around 30-40 USD.
This is cheaper than the one that Cock linked earlier, but doesn't spin as fast.
Which would you say is better between the two?
I'm not exactly an expert so I don't know.
Your video card is great and you shouldn't need to upgrade for a while.
Exactly what I was thinking.
It's done no harm so far, and I'm fine with it as far as gaming goes :D
Honestly, I'm not up to date on MOBO's, but what can do is I have provided you with a price comparison detail of some of the 15 best mobo's of 2012 from techradar.
http://www.techradar.com/news/compu...best-motherboard-14-reviewed-and-rated-904229
I think in sticking with that CPU you and Cock both linked, I'm fairly happy with keeping my Mobo the same.
P.S. there is literally almost no point upgrading cooling if you're not overclocking. You components at stock settings shouldnt be overheating or preformance shouldnt be suffering.
Oh right, so I should just stick with the stock fan that it comes with?
Or should I just buy a fan to keep it extra cool? xD

Wow..that sucks..

Right fair enough, I'll just go for the regular one then :D
Wouldn't bother with the RAM unless you start video editing shit loads.
Yeah, It will just be a few videos every so often, not like 24/7 editing or anything.

Yeah I'm thinking that I will just stick with the mobo I have now and go for the CPU that Cock and DyNe both posted.
If I'm ever desperately in need of a new mobo I will definitely upgrade to AM3+ just cause I can.
But for now the one I use it perfectly fine.
The good news is ATI cards are pulling ahead of nVidia offerings lately so an AMD board with CrossFire support will work out nicely. Having said that, my AM3+ board has two nVidia cards and it works great with those too despite lacking SLi support.
One GPU is fine for me right now xD

So what about the one Cock linked, do you think that would do the job?
I just bought a cheap little £20 PSU at the time because I was strapped for cash, so I definitely want a new one.

You can't really compare Heatsink Stats, you also can't really go wrong with a cooler unless you somehow buy a stock cooler. Hyper 212 is nice, but mother fucking huge. Its also Aluminum w/ Copper pipes.

The one I linked is low profile Pure copper, no aluminum hence the price.

Yeah I noticed the size haha
I do like the one you linked more seeing as it is smaller.

But, should I stick with the stock that comes with? Seeing as I won't be overclocking.
Or should I get the extra fan, just to keep the CPU at a nice temperature?

Stock Heatsink vs My 9900 just idle was over a 10degree drop.

Huge diff
Wow nice
I think I may invest in that fan then, just to keep my new CPU nice and cool.]

So..what about CD Drives.
Should I find some kind of cheap Blu-Ray drive.
I don't really use the CD Drive much..but I just want to replace the one I have because the IDE cable is annoying and in the way.

Long as its cheap go for it, IDE limits air flow so its good to get rid of it.

Looked around but Blu-Ray is quite expensive, seeing as I don't really use the CD Drive.

Just realised I have a CD Drive that my uncle gave to me.
He replaced his because he said this one was broken...But I don't know whether or not it IS broken.
So I will buy a SATA cable and test it out.

If it doesn't work, I will go for this one.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-GH24NS90...15?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1348268743&sr=1-15
On the plus, I will have already bought the SATA for it :D

The list so far is as follows:
From Amazon
Case - Thermaltake Chaser MK-1
CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965
CD Drive - This one or uncles old one.
From Eclipsecomputers
CPU Fan - Zalman CNPS8900
PSU - OCZ 700Watt ModXStream Unless anyone has ideas for any other power units?

Total Cost = £288.87
That's pretty much the same price I paid for the initial build

EDIT:
I forgot the SATA cable.
Only another 60 pence.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SATA-LOCKIN...1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1348270411&sr=1-4
That one would work for a CD Drive right? :P

someone here got a haf with blue lights. but i agree, its an ugly motherfucker. but those 3x240mm fans are quiet and push mad air thru :D fapworthy performance in the cooling department. antec has some cool looking cases.

@ cock: totally fanboyism :fap:

What's so bad about it? :P
Just remember that you're talking to a guy who at first bought a CiT Mars, and personally, I really like it :D
It's just a little small.

I looked all over, couldn't find one with blue lights in England.
Probably wouldn't buy it even if I did :P

Thermaltake is give or take. Sometimes you get a great part that lasts forever, sometimes you get a piece of crap that dies in a week and they wont replace. Personally, I've heard too many mixed reviews to bother with them.

My fall-back brands are Asus, Apevia, Mushkin and HIS. I haven't been following the thread, so I don't have any specific suggestions, sorry.

The Thermaltake thing I am thinking of buying is the Chaser MK 1 case.
It sounds to me like you guys keep talking about Thermaltake components rather than cases.

The case is getting very good reviews, despite being thermaltake.
Yeah I saw good reviews too.
The only bad one was from someone who had switched from a bigger case to that one.
He said it was a shame because he loved the case, but it just wasn't big enough for him.

Personally, upgrading from my Case to that one would be a huuuge upgrade and will probably be just big enough for me.

EDIT:
Btw, tht Sata cable that I linked...that will work on a CD Drive right?

I should be ordering all of it on Thursday when I get some more money :P
Will be ordering the SATA cable sooner though, so I can test this CD Drive I have.
