wow! i missed out!! i realize already that i'm going to continue to hi-jack omission's thread. and i'm sorry to hear about your situation hogg. really, that blows.
this is great. i love TD. and like i've said before, these are things worth talking about. i'm going to state my opinions because that i can, thats part of what a forum is for. what i say, is in the end, coming from one point of view that i believe is the truth. i am a christian too. some might call cancer a bad thing because it kills a human being. but an argument could be made that the doctor is bad, because he kills cancer. point of view.
look how one comment can blow up. a subject like this strikes a chord in everyone; either negative or positive, something is disturbed. when someone says the name of a religious leader, or names a religion, the dynamics of the conversation/situation change drastically. i think that in itself is something. this is something big, involving the whole universe. if the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning, like if there was no light in the universe and because of this no creatures with eyes, we should have never known that it was dark out. dark would be a word without meaning.
one of the biggest arguments that people have against god is, how can this world be so cruel and unjust. but how do we have this idea of just and unjust? a man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. what are we comparing this universe with when we call it unjust? atheism in itself is to simple.
we are all very close in what our point of views are. closer than we think. the biggest division though, is if you believe in God or gods, or not. and christianity lines up with the majority on this point.
[quote1259882781=TurboTaco]
I find a majority of ALL religious people (save for a very few pious and truly faithful individuals in their religions) are luke-warm religious practitioners.
............
And one more quip against you Foxx, and I mean this: Christiniaty is again, By NO MEANS (I stress this), any better than ANY religion out there.

turbo taco and BJ are right, and cock has very credible motives for his feelings. this is exactly why people are turned off to 'religion'. its because people are people, they think they are better off, its helps create their sense of security, by belittling others opinions, treating their own as higher or more correct than another person's belief.
and also because people are luke-warm, people will then view it as fake, its what you want it to be. but thats not what christianity is about, this is what people have made it. christianity had to be intense for it to last this long, for example god outright kills people for lying to Him, this had to be done in order for people of that day to realize that this was something real. but then this all comes down to if you believe in the bible or not. i'm not trying to pump it down your throat, i'm just trying to state its case.
if you are a christian you do not have to believe that all the other religions are simply wrong all through. if you are an atheist you do not have to believe that the main point in all the religions of the whole world is simply one huge mistake. if you are a christian, you are free to think that all those religions, even the weirdest ones, contain at least some hint of the truth. and in this case, i take christianity's side, so in my opinion, as in math, there is only one right answer, and all other answers are wrong, but some of the wrong answers are much nearer to being right than others.
blah..
