Can anyone help or give some advice on me overclocking my rig?

well think im gonna go buy a fan. mb has built in oc in it up to 30%. and just buy a new video card if i can find a decent one for like 119. right now im running a geforce 9500gt 512 thats 4 years old almost at least 3.

E7400 was my favorite chip, and I loved 775. Knowing the mobo is kind of important since different chipsets have different capabilities. Regardless, you'll reap the best rewards boosting the FSB as high as it'll go and then dealing with the CPU clock. That will make your North Bridge run really hot so you'll need some aftermarket heatsink for that. RAM also matters, but considering the price of DDR2 it would be pointless to upgrade

http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2236 this is the one I used, worked great at 440MHz FSB so I dunno what that article is claiming about 775 chipsets being too hot for it, but then again a fan blowing on it to keep heat from getting trapped between fins is necessary.

Sal, although you're correct, you must keep in mind OP's not interested in spending any more money, and just wants any kind of performance boost he can get as such.

So without diving in too deep, he wants a basic overclock using what he's got.

Ah well in that case, there's really no need to buy anything. With a halfway decent mobo, it's possible to overclock to 3.2GHz on that chip while undervolting by a fat margin and as a result run cool under max load with the stock Intel fan at its lowest speed. That's just a baseline suggestion, it can be tweaked up or down depending on the quality of the VRM. Regardless, the bulk of the performance increase will always come from pushing the FSB.

To put it into quick perspective: on my system with the same CPU, with the CPU at 4.4GHz and the FSB at 360 it was significantly slower than with the CPU at 3.8GHz and FSB at 440, even at SuperPi which is a CPU-heavy stress test. On a P45 chipset, 360 is doable even with an awful stock heatsink and if the FSB strap can be adjusted that bodes well for shitty RAM.

these intel core 2 duos are fine to over clock with the stock fan, i changed one setting in the bios on my computer at work, ~2.7 to around 3.4 iirc its just changing the fsb, all stock bullshit no name computer worked fine for 2 years after that i upgraded to i7

First problem.... Finding best way/solution to OC. I've taken a closer look and I'm willing to buy a better fan and oc. My ratios is 10.5 wont let me change it. cpu freq is 266. now if i need to change V i change the voltage for the fsb obviously right. Cause I have 4 options for changing voltage like memory, fsb, mch, ich. I don't mess with DRAM freq right. I can do the auto overclock in bios up to 30% not sure how it works but get blue screen didn't mess with voltage though. Not sure best route.

Second problem....video card running eGeForce 9500GT 512mb DDR2 If i can find a decent worth while replacement for $119(american) or less at www.microcenter.com in stock at michigan I'll go get it. Can't order online. I know it sucks but my wife will kill me.

Running 2 sticks of 2gb ddr2 btw.

Also found a setting called
Intel SpeedStep tech (enabled) says.. enabled cpu speed controlled by operating system disabled default cpu speed?

Can't really find anywhere to change voltage like my buddy did or I've seen people in videos I get options to Manual set fsb termination voltage or auto for safe and only two options are 1.2 or 1.3. Unless its under vcore voltage which is at 1.288 or under that 3.3voltage 5voltage and 12voltage.

I really do appreciate you guys' hlep and paitence with my stupidity

Setting options to Manual is usually how it all starts, but judging by the lack of options it seems your mobo is not equipped to overclock. The good news you can still force some sort of overclock by yanking your CPU and drawing on the circuit leads as seen here. Or you can buy a new mobo and go crazy tuning everything but all the good P45 mobos are overvalued, looks like on eBay they are still selling for their original sticker price :o
