the problem as i see it is that people like iCe, and to a certain extent, Steve, provide more emotionally backed statements and tend to stand their ground rather than discuss.

For instance, both Steve and iCe will often call on me and "soviet ideologies" when the specific thing that i'm debating at that particular moment has little to do with communism as it actually was, and more importantly, NOTHING to do with communism as iCe and Steve think of it. (Blame American upbringing)

It wouldn't be as bad if a few key members played along with an opposite view and tried to incorporate it into their own arguments and see if anything new or different would emerge.

having said that i am not an angel myself, but my defence is that some opinions have more or less been proven by society to be either flat out wrong (such as pretty much any reference to 1940s Soviet Union is any sort of beacon of social order) or highly misguided (gay marriage thread).

I voted no. Aslong as the dicussions are within the "serious f'n business" section, there should be no problem. You can choose to enter or not enter the debate. What I don't agree with is resorting to flaming in a debate.

Using the gay marriage thread as an example:
iCe argues his points, very intensely. However in that thread, he's arguing his points and not flaming. It's in the serious f'n section, so if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. They are his opinions; many disagree and respond which is perfectly fine. (Just using iCe as an example, not singling him out).

What I think should be moderated is if a debate response has "you dumb fucking idiot", "you dumb fag", "you are fucking stupid". Aswell as if anyone brings their butt hurt opinions to other sections of the forums.

i vote to ban it. i know i get quite heated when it comes to this topic. I think some of you know or at the very least assume where i stand and i stand quite strongly with it. I try VERY hard not to respond to those posts.

The problem is not so much the topic of politics itself, nobody is trying to suppress free speech. The problem is the flaming, name calling, the disrespectful and offensive comments people resort to express their disagreements.

Every big community forum has very active moderators. And those moderators make sure these sort of things don't happen. If you want a "free for all" forum, where you can do and say "whatever the fuck you want", then this community is not for you. I am sure there are forums out there where this type of attitude will be tolerated, but it will not be tolerated here.

In general, we are actually EXTREMELY lenient with the moderation of forum posts. But the second one of your flaming posts/threads is moderated, all hell breaks loose, "no freedom of speech" blah blah blah. Sorry to break it to you, but every member of this community deserves to be respected, regardless of their background, ethnicity, sexuality, political preferences, etc.

Some of you need to learn to disagree while respecting the opinion of others. Just because we have differences in opinions does not make us a lesser or better person than the person we are disagreeing with. Why is this such a hard point to get across? It's so simple. It's understandable some of you are passionate about what you believe in, but you can express that same passion while being respectful, bringing constructive arguments to the table rather than insults.

I have no issue with political debates. Forbidding them is an over reach, and abuse of power.
Repeating the same behavior that gets you banned is just as much of an over reach, and Honestly it's an abuse of the tag.

Personally I have cut my insults and belittling (I'm really bad with that one) down to a bare minimum. Honestly, it's not hard to do. Most of us here are old enough to realize it's not welcome and change our behavior.

We wouldn't allow any of this shit on any of our servers why is it allowed on the forums? As LB said , grow up.
