Just got home from dinner and saw some stupid chat request from some group/person I never heard of. The user was:

Admin Community Group TM

this fgt left a message saying something along the lines of

"Thank you for helping Steam Admin Community. Get a FREE Steam game from the Steam Games List without purchase! Just click the link http://bullshitbullshitbullshit.com/imadouchefucker - This is an automated message DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE"

Now I have never come across this particular scammer before, but when it sounds too good to be true it is. For fear of my fellow members and regulars getting their accounts hacked/stolen, please do not accept or click links to these sorts of assholes.

Not sure if this is new or old, but its new to me and thought I would share it all with you in case some of you also encounter this. I reported this fucker on Steam...i assume nothing will happen tho :\

There are plenty of these guys going around.
All saying different things.

People generally understand that they are scams and what not, but sometimes you get the odd idiot.
Which is why they do this kind of thing.

I usually accept the chat request, see what they have to say, then just close the chat.
Their only function is to spam that message to several people, so they wont bother you if you just ignore them.

Did you report it to Steam?

We are officially in Fraud/Scam Season. (Been in since August). You don't have to play TF2/CS/Any kind of game to get those kinds of scams.

Edit: The Security Service of Ukraine has already shut down some sites that have emerged from their area. (Anyone remember Demonoid?) They are continuing to accept sites that emerge from there that are related to scams, piracy (lol) and hijacking.

Steam is also taking links.

If it's a .tk Link, copy and send it to o abuse@dot.tk and they will take it down and lock out the user who created the domain.

It's whack-a-mole, but it at least causes some hassle for the hijacker.

Here's the response 48 hours later after I reported steam-freegifts.tk:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your email.

Dot TK is the exclusive registry for the
Country Code Top Level Domain for the island
of Tokelau (also known as "ccTLD").

Dot TK (.TK) registers domain names globally,
through our services Free Domain and
Paid Domain.

As your email is alerting us of
PHISHING by a holder of a Dot TK domain, we
have researched the case. The user is in
fact a Free Domain registrant, therefore
because of the PHISHING violation, the domain has
been canceled and the registrant has been
removed from our database.

Please note that it may take up to two hours
before the changes are globally affected.

Quite a lot of developers give out free copies of their game on steamgifts.com.
The devs for Sanctum gave out a lot of free copies of their game and their DLC a while back on facebook.
Some people give away free stuff, but not all :D

I get all kinds of emails from "Blizzard" saying my account broke some ToS and that I need to "verify" my account. Etc, etc.

I always get E-mails about my WoW and Diablo 3 account...of which I have neither.
I also get lots of Runescape E-mails...of which I haven't played for years...
