On topic, I just started watching the Wire and it's fucking amazing. Like Oz, I'm burning the entire series onto DVD to show my kids and fuck them right up when they're about 8-12.
Never seen the shield, so I can't really compare.
And I think you just broke my heart and shrunk my e-peen by telling me the last season was ass. It HAS to be better than season 2, which was far too pasty white and honkyed out for my taste. That Ziggy dude was so fuckin annoying it made me wanna barf, and his older cousin was a poor-man's Ben Affleck.

The Games of thrones books are seriously win. Season 2 should be solid. The lull will come in seasons 3 and 4 when things get.... weird. No spoilers, but I head-scratched at a few of the plot twists and said "huh?"
Clearly, George had a good thing rolling, but he fucked up a few things on my suspension of disbelief with a few storylines. Still a bitching series, but that only makes those few blips all the more puzzling.
