A Little Darkly
Game Handle(s): Bird Of PrAy

SteamID: steamID32: STEAM_0:1:9299944

Previous Clan/Community affiliations:
Currently Admin of the following servers...
Gamers UN trade servers #80 - 86
TF2-TRADER UNUSUAL / ALL TRADE SERVER
TF2-TRADER.COM AUSSIE UNUSUAL TRADE SERVER
TF2-TRADER.COM UNUSUAL SERVER #1
Tribe of Judah :: Christian Team Fortress 2 (my home server)

Real First Name: James

Age: 56

Location: Houston, Texas

Which DARKLY TF2 servers do you play on: DARKLY | Toronto Trade/idle #1-5 darklutrade.com

Why do you want to be a DARKLY TF2 Admin: I often visit your servers and never find an admin there to control people screaming into the mic, playing LOUD music, excessive adult language and porn sprays. My goal has always been to improve the environment of the servers I admin on. I find that I can control most issues without banning or kicking and do so only as a last resort. I have over 6500 hours in tf2, mostly in trade servers.

YES/NO Questions:
Do you have a minimum of 1 month on the server with at least 40 hours of play? YES! (My monthly time online is usually well over 120 hours.)

Do you have a working mic? Yes. (I use it often. It is my first and most important admin tool used on servers.)

IMPORATNT NOTE: If offered, I would want to know your rules before I would accept the job as admin. You can learn a lot about the way I run things by looking at the you Tube Video I created a few months ago to teach people good trading habits. My You Tube account is "angelhelp777" Look for the video titled, "A Word From Bird on TF2 Trading". I also bring with me a network of nearly 300 people on my friends list who help as my eyes and ears in servers I may not currently be in, and who call me when there is a problem in those servers. I see that you want the DARKLYgaming.com to be the primary server on my profile. I will of course include Darklygaming.com in the server list on my profile, but my primary server on my profile has been and always will be, "Tribe of Judah :: Christian Team Fortress 2". I will also wear the Darkly tag in place of one of my other server tags when in Darkly servers.

I am already becoming known in your DARKLY trade servers and do what I can without actual admin powers to help others and improve the server, so go there and ask about Bird Of PrAy and see what others think. If what I say does not conform to your needs for an admin, I understand. If you accept me as an admin to try me out, and later wish me to leave, I will do so with no argument. Thank you for considering my application.
Sincerely, James Galyon a.k.a. Bird Of PrAy

Nice application, couple things to note-Your steamID is the steamID32, should look something like this: STEAM_0:1:50995766.

YES/NO Questions:
Do you have a minimum of 1 month on the server with at least 40 hours of play? YES! (My monthly time online is usually well over 120 hours.)
This is asking if you been playing on the servers for at least one month and have a total of 40 hours on the servers which you do (4 days+).
Server rules are right here- http://www.darklygaming.com/forum/threads/darkly-server-rules.4613/

Suggestions-
Introduce yourself here: http://www.darklygaming.com/forum/forums/hey-im-new-here.105/
Become active on the forums and stick around.
Applications take 3 months or longer to process so you might have to wait quite awhile.
Try not to bump your application at all, if not necessary. Higher ups wont forget about your app ;).

Considering you already admin so many servers, it should be interesting what they have to say about that.
:)

cj4981, Thanks for the corrections and information. I now have more questions.
1. Is there a way for me to update my application post with corrected information?
2. I notice that my realname ended up under my avatar. Is there a way to change this?
3. Sorry about my error on the the Steam ID. steamID32: STEAM_0:1:9299944
4. I need to clarify my request about the rules. The rules I was looking for were actually the guidelines I am to use when administrating Darlky servers, such as limitations on language. I personally have pretty strict limitations, but I enforce only to the limit of the rules for the server I administrate. On Gamers UN we ask that adult language is kept to a minimum, but if someone get excited and says, "Holy Sh==" or similar, we let it go. If they start attacking others with it like,"You are a God da_n mother fuc==ng idiot." I request it stopped. If it continues, I either mute or take other action depending on the attitude of the person I am warning.
5. Yes, I am an admin on 11 servers. I usually rotate through them, spending the most time in the most populated ones at any given time. I keep nearly 300 friends on my friends list at any given time and they know to contact me if there is problem on a server I am not currently in. I am VERY interactive with gamers in the servers.
6. I probably have the lowest number of bans of most any admin around because I have earned the respect of others and get incredible back-up from other gamers in any given server. My #1 rule is to treat others like I want to be treated.

In closing, I treat any job I volunteer at as seriously as one I am paid for, and being admin of a server is a job. I am offering my services and experience only because it appeares there is a lack of control on most of your servers most of the time, and I believe I can improve it. Bird

Cool that you're applying :D

Anyways, nice app, and I think I can answer your questions.

1. You can edit the OP (original post). If I'm not mistaken, the button for that is at the bottom left of the original post if you mouse over it.

2. I don't think you are able to, although another administrator, such as Low Budget or Shotgun Jesus might be able to remedy this, if you find it necessary. As with the ability to change, I am unsure whether or not they can, so...

:letswait:

3. Great, thanks for fixing it!

4. Sounds like a very good mentality to have. :D

5. Sounds great in terms of activity! How many servers, more or less though? :p

6. Fantastic. :3

All in all, great app! Stick around and get to know people!

...That's a lot of time online...

Death by Darkly
Hi Bird Of PrAy, thanks for applying.

Being affiliated with another community via administration responsibilities (i.e. TF2-Trader) isn't as much of an issue as it is an aberration - the main hiccup of this is time constraints. While everyone has matters in actual life they need to tend to that are of course more important than gaming, when someone has responsibilities towards other gaming communities it often makes managing time spent between the two communities difficult; admins of Darkly are expected to remain relatively forum and server active and to stick around - a player floating about who isn't around often that also happens to possess administrative powers is a little unnerving. Being an admin is of course a responsibility to help maintain the servers' stability, and if an existing obligation towards another gaming community exists, we don't want an obligation to us to get in the way of that, nor do we want an obligation of them to get in the way of your duties here.

All that said, sometimes maintaining activity and responsibility between multiple communities and obligations is perfectly doable, and of course one isn't expected to be on the servers all the time. There are limits on what's reasonable to ask of someone.

Regarding your username - the name which appears under your avatar is in fact the username you registered on the Darkly forums. This isn't changeable by you - as Discodude said, some people may be able to change it for you, though it's doubtful. If you find it necessary, contact them if you would like to address this issue.

Stay active the forums and get to know some of the community better - considering your time I can understand how that may be difficult, but please make the effort; we'd all love to get to know you, and depending on how that turns out we can make a better on your application and be more flexible.

Stick around!

Where you do seem like a very level headed person, you are very active and have a lot of experience being an admin and wont go abusing your power.
I have a slightly minor problem.

While playing with you, I noticed that you sometimes advertise the other servers you Admin on over mic.
Now, I know this is for people to contact you there if they want to talk etcetera, and it's not exactly spamming the IPs into the chat or anything, but I'm sure if I started going to the servers you Admin on and started saying 'Hey, come contact me on any Darkly servers or the Darkly forums!' then the higher up Admins wouldn't appreciate it much.

I really appreciate all the excellent responses I have received since submitting my application for admin on DARKLY servers.

As I mentioned I am already currently admin on eleven other servers, but there is more you should know about me. I have over 6500 hours on TF2 for a good reason. For the last 18 years my wife has been very ill with Insulin Dependent Diabetes and a host of other illnesses, and since we have no insurance or health care in the US, we have no doctors and her condition gets a bit worse each day. In the last five years it has become necessary for me to stay home with her nearly 24/7 just in case there is a problem, so I have a lot of available time on my computer.

My wife's illnesses also cause her to sleep anywhere from 12 to 22 hours straight and that makes a regular sleeping schedule for me impossible. Sometimes I am up during the day and sometimes at night. The list of servers I mentioned are all over the world in different time zones, and thus active at different times. The Gamers UN Australia servers are usually active from 10 pm to 4 am my time. Most of the of the tf2-trader.com servers are in the USA and are active from around 3 pm to 10 pm. My home server "toj.cc" is only active on Tuesday evening from 8:30 pm till around midnight when I game with them one night a week. At last count there are only about 125 members of toj.cc and about a third are admins so my services there are not really needed even on the one night we play.

What I am attempting to explain is that I work as admin in the servers which are active at the time I am awake, and usually there are only 2 o 3 active filled servers at any given time, so I only need to deal with those servers. My extensive friends list which usually stays full at 300 knows to notify me of trouble in any server I may not currently be watching and I just hop over to that particular server to deal with any issues that arise.

In conclusion, I was not offering my services because I wanted to be admin of more servers. I only noticed that I am often visiting your DARKLY servers and rarely there is an admin present to deal with trolls and other troublemakers in those servers. I like to help where there is a need. Because of my interaction with other gamers and my style of dealing with issues in servers, many do not even realize I am an admin because I so rarely need to use my admin powers. If you are looking for an admin to spend continuous hours in a specific server on a defined schedule, that would not be me. I am more of a "go where I am needed, when I am needed admin" and I fill in the gaps. If other admins are already in a server, I will sometimes pick other servers to go to.

I tend to over explain to avoid being misunderstood and it is beginning to appear I am working too hard at trying to convince those in DARKLY I can help. I am here if you need me and will leave it at that. Have a blessed day. James

Hey Zack, you are correct that I often talk about other servers, but I was told yesterday that it is against your servers rules to do so. I have a big mouth, but I will do my best to refrain from doing it again. I was actually on one of the Aussie servers I admin in last night and someone asked me for a good server to go to for trading. I gave them the IP of a DARKLY Trading server. I have built a rep by being honest and helpful to people, and if that means telling them about another server, I will do so as long as I am not violating the rules of the server I am in. I appreciate your input and will put it to good use. Have a blessed day. James a.k.a. Bird Of PrAy
