SLI

Anyone here run Nvidia SLI? Did it make a good enough difference? Are you happy with it? What are some effects of SLI (higher fps, or just more stable at higher res/better graphics etc).

HOLLA! :D

Higher FPS in games. How much you can benefit from it depends on the cards and rest of your system.

What is your system specs ?

SLI = scam

ull go from (example) 200 to 230 fps + universe of problems. lots of games dont support it.

You are wrong. Maybe when SLI first came out. Nvidia has good drivers to support all games.

You won't benefit SLI for CSS. But if you want to play recent games in decent video settings SLI will definately help. But it also depends on your system.

I have run both SLI and XFIRE but I find it's just better spending the money on a better single slot card in the long run. but if you want to twin your current setup you will have a noticable difference depending on the card

@ 47, not with new drivers, as stated. I'm doing it for free, if bucky upgrades his vid. card.

@ xtr3m3:

- Asus P5K-E Wifi/AP***
- Q6600 2.4Ghz @ 3.42Ghz 8Mb Cache
- 8GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800Mhz 5-5-5-18 @ 667Mhz 4-4-4-12
- Seagate 250GB Mac OSX (Sata II 3GB/s)
- WD 250GB Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (Sata II 3GB/s)
- XFX Nvidia 8800 Ultra 768MB (WOULD be two of them now, if bucky upgrades)

***Has 2 PCI-E 2.0 slots, however the second one is PCI-E 2.0 X 8, not X16 :/ Either way, I'm doing it for free, so :)

Because the video card's so old (yet ROCKS most new games REALLY well) I can't find a recent/decent review, especially since SLI/Xfire drivers were shit at the time and gave gains of only 5% (for an example), so I ask anyone here that runs SLI.

I'm looking to achieve not only higher frames in newer games (Metro 2033 I want to try so bad, among others). For css, I run 100FPS absolute constant, so I'm not worried there.

I had bad experience with my 8600 gts in sli back in 2008. I plugged them into my new rig when i bought it in Aug just for fun and achieved the same benches that my 8800gts would achieve. I could run Bc2 at med-low specs @ 60 frames.

If you are getting your 8800 free or even cheap then fuck ya man, they have fixed all the bugs for sli that i can see.

Shit eh, i'm lucky then, my ultra gives me 50fps all high, no aa no aniso in bc2. even higher in vietnam... maybe i'll be able to rock really new, intense games with two of them given the new drivers pumping out mad numbers..

My personal experience and advice:

Don't ever, ever, crossfire, EVER. I have had issues out the wazzzzzzoooooo.

SLI, is much better, but still you are better off with a single stronger card IMHO. You will see minor to decent improvements in performance, but still nothing to warrent the potential and likely accurance of problems you WILL have.

1 great card > two good cards
1 great card and its performance > two great cards and their performance and headaches

I don't have an SLI cable.. I need to find one :o

Apparently they only come with motherboards, rather than cards now-a-days? Fuck me. Can't find any :/

Hey Jr. I just saw your system specs.
You can't SLI with that mobo. Sorry :(

You can do crossfire tho.

Edit: The reason is you have an Intel P35 chipset which doesn't support SLI. Intel started SLI support with x58.

You need a mobo with nvidia chipset.

Ohhhhhhhh snap, I never even though to research... fack me :(

Oh well, if anything, I'll use it as CUDA/PhysX... Should help me out at least.. I don't wanna let it just "sit" there lol

Thanks for the heads up!

Right, so i added an 8600GT 512MB I forgot I had lying around and use it as a CUDA/PhysX card, and i've already noticed a nice difference :)

Today, i'm going to see if my PSU can hanfle a second Ultra on it, and if so I'll test another Ultra as the CUDA/PhysX card and post back.

So far i max out bc2 with 16x aniso, and 4x AA, HD res., at absolute min of 50fps, DX10 (hardware limited). Before the 8600 was added, i would have to turn AA and aniso. off, and run effects at medium to attain the same results.
