I'm New Here
I asked at first if he was serious about the duel, in which he responded yes. We traded to show our offers (his being the key, mine being my kringle collection) and agreed to the duel. His sniper set was the sydney sleeper set (I suppose to throw off those with the naked eye) to avoid getting insta killed. I had my fair sniper set with no bonuses. I could not view his backpack, nor add him as a friend as his profile is completely private. As the duel reached 9-7 he left the game.

Note: I had nothing to do with this scam, what so ever, but just a few pieces of advice for next time so that something like this doesn't happen to you again.

1) Use either a Darkly Admin/Moderator when doing stuff like this to ensure that even if the other person leaves like in this case, the middleman has the item(s) for you.
2) If you see anyone with a "private" backpack, especially if they are not allowing you to add them, just don't associate with them as they most likely have something to hide. This is one of the reasons why TF2 Outpost bans players who have a private backpack to prevent scams, etc. It's better to be safe then sorry when doing the trade/contest/duel so you don't get scammed out of your items.

You did nothing wrong, this is just some friendly advice to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Hope this helped,
~HappySticks

An update on this, the fellow joined server 5 while I was on it later, trying to pull the same stunt. he had changed his name and profile pic, but his voice was familiar, and I checked his steam ID to verify that it was the same fellow. I gave him a half-hour temp ban, but who knows if that'll be enough to deter him for a while.
