wasn't sure where to stick this, but what do you guys think, and is there anything similar out there? I was going to rant about them last week taking more of my money for something I bought off ebay (which they did), but they ended up resolving and paying me back yesterday.

Credit Card.

Never a bad time to build a good relationship with your bank.

No one believes me when I say this, but I don't pay a dime in bank fees. I've been with the same bank forever, they constantly offer to bump up my credit limit and shit. WHen I have problems, they solve them lickitty split. Not all banks are created equally, but fuck it, just use a credit card.

There's no such thing as a bad time to build good credit.

I make a point to pay at least one bill a month on my credit card and pay it off just to build the credit. That's probably why my bank keeps offering me fat ass lines of credit, massive boosts to my credit card limit and new banking features that they will pay for themselves.

(The VISA company still tries to Jedi Mind Trick me into changing my card type so I'll pay THEM $120 a year, but I continually tell them to go fuck themselves. Yell at people once or twice and catch them trying to fuck you over, and you'll be surprised how quickly they'll start "Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir"ing you. It pays to work in the service industry. You learn what buttons to push and when, and you never pay what other people do. To this day, my cell phone plan is reknowned amongst my friends as highway robbery. After 4 years of robbing them blind, they gave me a data deal, a new phone, $100 credit, 6 months of free features and a $2 reduction in my monthly bill. Either you work the system, or the system works you. :P)

I think James was referring more to a payment service in which he can receive money as well as send it. A credit card only fulfills one of those roles. However I agree that having a credit card is a very good thing.

I know there are some other payment systems out there...but I can't for the life of me think of the name of one.

I usually use email bank transfers. It's quick, it's easy, and it only costs a dollar per transaction. (At my bank anyhow.)

It saves you from having to set up anything additional to what you already have. I've been using it for my soccer team, and it works like a charm.

Besides, you don't need to proffer up any banking information. You just have to offer you email address, and, ta-da, the money is yours.

Yeah, I have a credit card, but what skd said is more what I'm looking for. I got screwed a few years back with my first card, I was only able to get one again at the tail end of 2011. My bank's email transfer is pretty decent, but I don't really see too many online venues that would let you do that.

i'm gonna take a look at that impruv.

If you treat the bank well. They will treat you well.
I have a dedicated credit card to paypal and it has a max so if anything were to happen I wouldn't be screwed.

Paypal isn't that bad I mean anytime I've had problems with them I call and my dispute is resolved.

Paypal is legit. I've been fucked over before on ebay and paypal got my money back no problems.

I have a paypal account but I'm kinda sketchy on it. Then again, I do recreationally gamble on soccer and baseball (which is a braggart's exaggeration for legal purposes) from time to time and since there is some gay law concerning not being allowed to use a credit card to re-up a betting account, which is gay. I guess I should be less paranoid about my archaic PayPal account and use that instead of a lengthy and annoying bank transfer.

Paypal's been good to me but I mentioned in the thread about the Megaupload shutdown that Filesonic still pulled funds from my account after I canceled the subscription. That has made me think about how if Paypal didn't honour my dispute it would have basically been like money stolen from my bank account, so definitely de-couple that shit from your main bank account if you do get on Paypal. It's a good service though, what can ya do? Everyone just uses it.
