I hate to break it to you but no one gives a fuck about people dieing in 9/11 or people dieing in Katrina. This oil spill however is ruining the gulf and who knows how much more damage it will do to the world before all is said and done.

Humanity does not transcend the eco system. If we destroy ours, we will die. THAT is why this is so important and the biggest disaster of our time. There is only one earth.

Ice. The difference between this and a volcano is that WE caused it, it did not happen naturally. I don't give two shits about the fish. I care about the thousands of people that (fisherman, tourism industry, etc) that won't be making any money. Also, yes the planet will heal itself, but that doesn't mean we can just go around doing whatever we want and causing geological disasters, if you say otherwise then man I just don't know. We live here we should make an effort to treat it with respect. Btw global warming is happening, but we aren't the cause, it is natural.

Assuming it follows the jet stream: Cuba, then Florida will get hammered. I think its concentrations will be significantly diminished once it hits the Atlantic before it can hurt the Eastern seaboard.

Generally while I agree that people can be more valuable then some fish, an event of this magnitude is quite clearly having a huge HUMAN impact as well as environment. All of those fisherman are out of work (if they aren't working for BP) and the tourism industries are grinding to a halt. I think more people are being DIRECTLY affected by this than 9/11 (and don't lump IRAQ in that bucket).

I would definitely save my dog's life over a complete stranger. Sorry to say it, but I love my dog more than some abstract person. Maybe it was a serial killer? Could have been the guy who was going to cure cancer? I know my dog and KNOW he doesn't deserve to die.
