Memory not an ISsue!!!!! ALL I WANT TO DO IS GET A NEW PROCESSOR UPGRADE. HERE IS WHAT I WANT : AMD Phenom II X4 965 WILL IT WORK: Ive searched for hours and cant get any information on compatibility!! Any help guys will be much appreciated.

It should work. If it doesn't then you can always get a new mobo for pretty cheap anyways.

How much are you gettin the 965 for and how much of an issue is money here?

This is correct. AM3 motherboards only supports DDR3, if you get a new AM3 board you will need new memory.

An AM3 CPU might work on an AM2+ motherboard as AM3 has both DDR3 and DDR2 memory controllers, what it comes down to is your BIOS. If the BIOS supports it (might need to flash it and update) it will work.

After some looking it seems that an AM3 CPU will not work in your system.

The BIOS for the RS780 Rev 1.0 motherboard is incompatible with AM3, and Gateway offers no BIOS update.

Thanks for the feedback guys, as it seems i am not only getting a new processor, i am geting a new moboard , ram, and hard drive this along with my already new psu and vidoe card should make for a very nice revmped system. I will post my new updated system for all to see tonight. Thanks again!!!
