I know this is Canada and what not and the only real sport is hockey from what TSN tells me. But does nobody here watch basketball? I mean jesus christ, this sub forum starts with the word 'sports' and yet theres a thread about a beat boxing flute player before the toronto raptors.

Anyways, Raps have had a disgusting season but have been doing better of late. Do you guys think they are under performing or over performing?

Right now they are the front runners in trying to acquire Rudy Gay. Not really sure if we should be targeting a player like rudy gay. A definite upgrade but at max contract, hes just not worth it. Bryan Colagnelo has had a history of acquiring bad SFs. And despite SF being our weakest position, we are so overcrowded there. From kleiza to pietrus to fields. We have so much money tied up there and adding rudy gay just complicates the problem.

Side note: Really surprised at how bad lakers are doing lol.

To be honest, raptors are looking better this season then last season but there is still alot of work to be done, casey is doing a good job with the defense and we have improved alot from last season. Guys like terrance ross, lowry, and villenua are great players for the team. But, for playoffs this season i highly doubt it because firstly it is toronto, secondly we don't have much depth on the roster this year. Raptors can only beat teams that are not in the playoffs and they struggle with teams that are in the playoffs. Rudy gay would be a great addition to the raptors from memphis as he is a great player, but seeing a deal for him to come to Toronto is unlikely.

Well to explain some of lakers fail this season.

-The couching staff is indeed one of the major factors. I never believed in mike d'atoni as a coach. However the worst part is that lakers brought in assistant coaches in the off season to help implement Princeton offense which was Mike Brown's style. Firing mike brown and still having the same assistant coaches brings an imbalance of coaching philosophy and plays.

- Dwight howard's free throw shooting is just woeful. It make a significant drop off last year and its stayed that way this year. He use to be able to shoot at 60% clip but now that he can only convert 50% of them, teams are having no trouble fouling him purposely and gamble. The fact hes not clutch at free throws, doesn't help.

- Kobe bryant for all the amazing things hes been doing amazing on offense hasnt been doing so well on the defensive end. It may be age or it maybe because hes carrying a heavier offensive load. But his defense hasent been good in a team where every player on the roster has gotton worse defensively compared to last year. His hero ball has also stopped ball movement and wastes the amount of talent that is on the team.

- Bench. They have no bench, scrub players that even as a hardcore basketball like me can barely recognize.

TLDR version: They are just too old and slow is the #1 thing. Although in recent years, teams have just been bringing all star talent into 1 team and succeeding, lakers is a prime example of why synergy is still very important. They can still improve their synergy right now but so far they are not playing like a cohesive unit. And coaching staff sucks.

The Lakers hired the wrong coach. He is high octane offense and their team is Metamucil.

Raptors just acquired rudy gay. Now we start the treadmill all over again. I don't hate the move but I don't like it either. Really skeptical about this one.

bold move by the raptors in acquiring rudy gay but, we lost Ed Davis who could be a future star player and jose calderon who wasnt bad playing as a point guard.

By that logic, a lot of young players could be star players. Yes, ed davis was doing pretty good lately but I dont think he has any more all star potential than amir johnson. Amir is only 2 years older and fills the exact same role as ed davis.

Calderon is an expiring contract, he would of been gone after this season regardless. We could of resigned him but i'll rather we didn't. Hes been the cause of too many PG controversies over the years and its been really damaging to the franchise. And each time he starts heating up, he always cools down again. This was one of his best years of his career but it might of just been because hes last year of contract and is working extra hard for the next one. He is just bad luck to raptors though and hes played his part in crippling the franchise over the last 4 years. Im still a fan of him cuz hes a good guy whos always been professional but I want to be a fan of him while hes under a different team.

This trade is indeed an extremely bold move. Rudy gay is not a max contract player and hes been playing really really bad this year. However for an expiring contract and a young PF, you can't expect much more. Rudy gay is a proven stud in the league, something calderon would never achieve and ed davis is must likely never to achieve. This could be a buy low situation with memphis' desire to shed salary and rudy's poor production this year. It could end up biting us in the ass. This is a typical bryan coloangelo move to swing for the fences. However this move may end up being his best yet if rudy gay plays like he did a few years ago.

its true that Rudy gay is a star player that has proven himself in Memphis, but as all star players that come to Toronto that were good before are always flop this includes hockey, basketball, football, baseball and soccer.

I don't follow the other sports closely enough to comment on that. However toronto raptors have never in the past brought in a player like rudy gay. A star player thats still just young and entering prime. All the stars that were brought into toronto were already over the hill and in 30s or something.

Yea, I have no clue what got into caron butler. That was so weird and unprofessional at same time. Its just like that time where amir ripped the ball out of refs hand, just temporarily lost his mind. Although that caron butler one is a lot worse. Shakes val's hands then tries to rip it out then gets a clear path foul. Lol like what the hell?
