I'm from Saskatoon and today i found out that Maclean's decided that it is the most dangerous city in Canada.

I don't know if anyone has been to Saskatoon, but Regina is a lot fucking worse and i have spent a lot of time in Vancouver and seen some crazy shit.

Just wondering what you guys think about this.

I heard about it in the radio this morning. The safest city in canada is Caledon. Toronto ranked 29th. Never been to saskatoon, so i dont know.

in my part of town you can get yourself punched in the face for talking shit. willowhooddale represent1111

when i was living out in lodgepole alberta i thought they were pretty hardcore, from cracked out natives always up to no good, to nearly everyone i met who worked on the rigs, they had done time in prison. anyhow they were rich and got me drunk for free at the bar anytime they wernt doing their job, so it was alright, still, getting run over by one of those dudes drunk out of their god damn minds on the 100 meter walk home was always a possible reality tho lol.

Saskatoon is the only place i have lived where nothing bad has happened to me, although most of my neighbors are old people or nice families with young kids

i would be wary of these stats. anyone who knows anything about crime statistics will tell you that this has at least as much to do with logistics (data collection, law administration, and the number of crimes that are actually reported) as it has to do with actual propensity towards violent crimes in these areas.
i mean variations from province to province in the legal systems is enough to throw doubt on these stats. a comparison on the provincial level would make more sense, don't you think? It isn't a coincidence that regina and saskatoon are both in saskatchewan. and no it doesn't necessarily indicate that prairie farmers have a greater propensity to beat each other up, but rather that the two cities are prone to providing a greater number of RECORDED crimes (relative to population) than other cities. this could mean there is more violence, but it could also mean any other number of things.

I like your point Pyro, I would like to think our police are doing their job very well vs crime being an issue

what does most dangerous mean?

and that goes with what pyro said, you have to be wary of these stats, any stats for that matter. cause even though stats are put out to the public, there is ALOT of crimes that are unreported, especially in the northern provinces and the north end of the bottom provinces. my father is a probation supervisor for the inter lake region in manitoba, that is everywhere above winnipeg to quarter way up manitoba, between the two big lakes. he visits lots of reserves, and because they are so isolated and under staffed, people up there are 'less supervised' than in cities. so people go 'missing'. people will hear a gunshot go off in a city, maybe not so much in remote areas.

here is an article from october.

From the article in first post:

According to its website, “Maclean’s obtained annual crime data from Statistics Canada for municipal police services with the 100 largest populations in the nation. Using 2007 rates per 100,000 population for six crimes — homicide, sexual assault, aggravated assault, vehicle theft, robbery plus breaking and entering — Maclean’s calculated the percentage difference from the national rate for each of the six crimes.

Saskatoon is a piece of shit. Regina is bad, and so is Winnipeg. I know quite a few people who left those stink towns and never looked back.
