I gave up on cases $40 in. I kept getting penny skins, and maybe once or twice got a $7 or $9 skin. Now I just flip skins for money and buy the skin I want.

maybe im dumb, but why would someone want to trade a better knife for a worse one?

Because prices vary like the stock market and sometimes you can get a better knife for a very similar price to a crappier knife, and someone who is selling is likely bored with their knife and is willing to trade to try out another knife. You just have to find the right person. I've done it many times as has HappySticks.
