I'm back a little bit, I think I may have logged 5 hours over the weekend.
I've literally been playing the SHIT out of KSP. I got 47 into it as well. The feels are incredible. He damn near made orbit, and I've got a full blown orbital kethane mining operation on minmus.
This is my mission profile.
1. Miner rover on minmus
2. LEM to ship kethane from surface to orbiting command module.
3. Command module to refinery for, uh refination, into various fuels
So my LEM only carries 2000 kethane units from surface to CM, but this is because I was unsure about the weight. I'm now mid construction for a bigger LEM (mark 2) that will hold 10,000 units. The good thing about having my refinery in full swing, is, it provides and excellent fueling station, so I can launch heavier craft, and I also can save weight by limiting my RCS fuel and thrusters and "collect" it once its in geosynchronous orbit with various CM's that I've used to build the refinery in space, and now just hang off the refinery.

Orbital rendezvouz is by far, the hardest thing you'll ever do in the game.
It requires careful balancing of your RCS, and patience, lots and lots of patience.

for example, I was looking into it, my largest heavy lifter platform weights 1700 tonnes, has 1200 parts, and is used to launch untouched rockomax fuel tanks into orbit, or various components of my refinery.
