iCe,
You're working and supporting your family, you're making good coin and you put your kid in private education. Tomorrow your boss tells you that he is moving the company to China and that after 10 years he's letting you and everyone else go.
You need to find a replacement job but you're competing with the other 100 fags that just got laid off along with you. You find some job opportunities in your field but they don't pay well and even with your experience you're not given the salary that you need because remember that those 100 fags are fighting for the same spot, and some of them might not have kids to put through school, or mortgages, or car loans, and they settle for a lower wage just so that they could have some work.
All of a sudden you find yourself having to accept a lower wage.. so what do you sacrifice? Your car, your house, your kids education? You need your house cuz you need a place to live. You need your car because work is 50 kilometers away and you don't have a public transit option because its not VIABLE enough.
So you can your kids school and put him in public that's a few blocks down.
A few months go by and everything seems okay, then the first report card comes in and you're not too pleased, so you take a more active role in your kids education and start looking at what he/she is learning. You realize that they are using 10-15 year old textbooks, the quality of homework assignments is laughable and your kid doesn't seem to really know anything. You go to a PTA meeting and meet your kids teachers and are horrified that they look like someone that gave up on life, let alone teaching. They don't care, their school is underfunded, they teach the bare minimum, and they don't give a rats ass whether your kid actually gets the material or not. The school has no sports team, no clubs, no extracurricular activities. The teachers punch in at 3:30 and go home, some before the students. The only person left in the school after 4pm is the janitor, and they don't stick around for too long cuz they don't get paid enough to give a fuck.
So where are the good teachers? THEY ARE OVER IN THOSE PRIVATE SCHOOLS THAT YOU CAN"T AFFORD. Not because you're a shitty worker, but because your old boss decided to pull the plug on you, and it will be at least a few years before you can get back on your feet.. assuming everything goes well, and that's a big risk to take. All the while your kid is getting a shitty education and getting in with the wrong crowd. Now you need to make a decision, you try to sell your home to get some equity so that you can put your kid in a good school but wait a second, OHH OHH, your house is now worth LESS than what you OWE for it. Your car's lease is coming up. And your new boss doesn't want to give you a raise.
What are you gonna do?
NOTHING, you're going to sit there like a pansy and take it cuz it's all YOUR fault... RIGHT?
WRONG.
That is why we have social programs, that is why a nation MUST invest into easily accessable and high quality PUBLIC education. To get the best teachers you need high salaries, the private schools are paying for them, so if a regular school pays the same wage they'll stick with the public schools.
You realize that as a %, you'll pay less to support a high level of public education than you would paying for your kid individually? The same thing of capital amplification that happens in corporations will happen with education.
Explain to me, iCe, how you can justify paying 10 grand a year to put your kid in a private school, but object to paying 1 grand a year so that every kid in your area can have a chance at a quality education.
The reason you get mugged by a 14 year old is because that 14 year old is not in school getting educated, but you don't give a fuck so long as your kid is in school.
You don't see any problem with this? Seriously?
