Hey man I was at the race all weekend. Grabbed me a hotel downtown and had a great time. It was one of the best races I have seen in Toronto. I have seats in turn 3 and they have got to be the best seats in the house. All the action is there. I have sat in the golds, silvers and thunder alley. But ever since they opened up a public stand in turn three I have been there. All the action is there, from full speed to hard braking to 90% of the bumping, grinding, crashing and passing!!
Now as for the crap that was the rest of the event it wasn't so good. The security was BULLSHIT. You couldn't even bring in your own water, soda, or food. It was confiscated at the gate. If Toronto ever wants to see racing come alive they are going to have to get there heads out of there asses and let the fans have some freedom. No wonder we don't have a Nascar race. Hell go to a race in Montreal or to any race in the U.S. and you can bring in whatever you want as long as it is not in a glass container. To see security taking families food and water away was disgusting to say the least. I paid $360 for my pair of tickets for the weekend and then they want to soak me for 3 bucks for water and 4 bucks for pop. And a beer is $10 bucks including tip for christs sake. Although I do have to give Budweiser a huge thump on the back for their great sponsership. Budweiser being there saved the day.
Now if the race hadn't have been as good as it was I would tell them that that is the last time I'll go until they lighten up the security crap. I would rather go spend my money in the U.S. or Montreal and have the freedom to bring my own food and drinks. But being the sucker I am and having first grabs at my seats I will probably go next year anyways and see what happens. I do plan however in writing a letter to indycar as well as the mayor about how what is happening is just not acceptable to the fans.
It was amazing how many people I talked to and how many of the real hardcore Toronto race fans were pissed off and angry about what was happening. If this keeps up the Toronto race will just disappear.
