I've been wondering about this as well. If Valve was to ever introduce 128 tick servers into competitive match making, they'd probably need to separate the competitive mode rankings into 128 tick server rankings and 64 tick server rankings. But I doubt that they'll ever do this for a variety of reasons. I might jump in and try ESEA. I have yet to play any competitive games in GO.

WarOwl was talking about altPUG in a video he posted yesterday here:
.

I probably won't bother with it, though. I'm aware of the ESEA bit coin thing, but I want to play where there's a large pool of highly skilled players. ESEA looks to be that place.

I want to try ESEA too, but there have been several cases where the client burnt out computers because of the bit coin scandal. I'm not too sure if that is the case now, I haven't read into it recently.

I just saw that video too and altPUG looks alright, but there are not too many people on it. Also, no dead chat =/

problem with ESEA is everybody just plays for frags trying to increase their KDR while baiting their whole team
No doubt. I see that no matter where I go to play. I would probably only feel comfortable playing competitive if I knew all of the other people playing on my team (having played with them before in casual mode, for example).

To not have this problem, you would need to play with them in casual mode, or you need to make a legit team and playing leagues, seems like playing competitive with random people there is always a trust issue

I had my first classic competitive match on a Valve server last night. 64 tick is definitely awful, but at least I was maintaining a frame rate above 200 at all times (unlike when I play 32 player classic casual). I've read that input lag is tied to frame rate in Source engine games, and 200FPS felt very, very good.

64 tick..
32 tick...

What is all this?!
Just play the damn game and enjoy it -.-

Honestly I don't care if I have 50 FPS or 200 FPS
I play games to enjoy them, everything feels the same to me.

You aim, you shoot, you kill, you die.
I'm not fussy about all this crap like a lot of gamers are...

Well, you will still be limited by the tick rate, which is on the server end. 200 FPS is very good, but I don't think you can notice the differences if say your FPS was 120-150.

Yeah, I was definitely still limited by the tick rate of the server, but I've read that client side input lag (ie. mouse input) can be reduced by running the game at a higher frame rate. Apparently, input lag can be reduced all the way down to 7ms if the game is running at 200FPS. And so while you may not notice the difference between a constant 128FPS and a constant 200FPS, there may be a slight decrease in input lag. I'll try to find some sources.

I can see that as being true, especially if you are playing at a really low frame rate. I would like to read about it though.
