Dual Display Issues

I am having a problem getting my display options on my second monitor to stay set after a shut down. the things that have been changing are 1. screen resolution drops to 1024 x 768 instead of native 1920 x 1080, 2. the position of where the display is relative to my main screen. i have the 2nd screen on the right hand side of my main, but every time i restart it goes back to the left hand side. I have a Intel DP55WG media board with a nvidia gtx 460, on windows 7 64bit. The driver are all current, and i have tried changing the options through window and nvidia control panel. What do i need to do?

Also i have a Razer Lycosa (mirror spc. edt.) keyboard that randomly stops working, until i either shut down and switch what usb it is plugged into or go into device manager and delete the drivers than restart. I have tried using it with default drivers, and the razer drivers. the problem still occurs, it seem like it happen when my pc sits inactive for a while

What I always do is I unplug my second screen when I am installing my drivers, so that way I can make sure my monitor is going to be recognized as the primary. that's with ATI tho haven't used nvidia control panel in years.

thats not the issue, my main monitor is always my main monitor. the secondary monitor is the one that is having the problems, my main monitor has no issues and always boots as my main. the position in the options switches were it is relative to my main monitor. so what i am saying is have to switch there position in options everytime not which is default.

For screen orientation (which monitor is the 'left' screen and which is the 'right' screen), switch the DVI cables on the video card. This will fix the first part of your issue.

The second part of the issue would be the resolution: for this, I would leave all Windows settings to stock, and configure the monitor in NVidia control panel. I think the issue might be related to whether or not your 2nd monitor is on, or off, during Windows startup. I've tested rebooting a few times (once even blue screening by accident lol) and it hasn't changed resolution. What kind of cable are you using, and is it old/new?

I had a similar problem trying to get my PSP working as a second display and the solution was installing a virtual display driver. Aside from saving your settings for next startup, that software should also provide more options for customization.

Should be able to just drag the icon to the side/orientation that you want in the monitors screen without messing with the cables.

so to clarify a little more, i have a 24in and a 22in i have the 24 set as my main display, every time i start i have to drag the icon for the second screen to the aporpriate side and change the reso. i have tried it through nvidia same issue occurs on start up. everything is up to date as far as software.

also do you have any ideas on my keyboard issue stated below. kind of the same ordeal.

edit: if i switch the cables it switches which monitor is the main display, i change the options, same problem

have you tried changing the position on the default windows screen resolution settings instead of nvidia control panel?

@ Glock - yes, you can do that as well. However, by switching the cables, you no longer have to switch anything in Windows. However, his issue remains even if he does that :/ ? lol

@ Half-baked - which version of Windows are you running? Is it legit? If not, how is it activated? I've got a sneaking suspicion if that may be the case. If not, I'll do some homework on this tomorrow.

Drugz: i have tried everything it will let me, unless it is something in bios, but i doubt

idk i am about to just do a fresh install and see if that fixes anything, the keyboard has really fucked me because i have to waste so much time to get it to work again i lose time to game, for having to do work

Sorry, coming into this thread a bit late.

My work PC, win7 box, occasionally it appears the mouse and keyboard (or maybe usb hub?) drivers crash, and I can't interact with my machine.

Its lame, tends to happen when the screensaver kicks in.

Disable screen saver? ALSO - double-check your advanced power settings and disable "USB Selective Suspend" setting. Windows already has (for the life of it's POS life) had mad issues regarding sleep and suspend modes, so I assume those issues carry over to it's inability to utilize the same feature on it's hardware, drivers or not.

As for the display issue, I'm at a loss, to be frank. Maybe reinstalling is the best solution :/
