i have the 750 wat PSU coolermaster that 47 linked very good PSU, if you wanna build this right id say spend a few months waiting for parts you want to come on sale rather than buying lower qiuality parts now. took me 2 months to order all the parts for my computer but its a hell of a lot better than it would have been if i had just shoped the deals that weekend

This. I ordered the parts for my current rig over a 5 month span. Saved about $450 on my i7 build.

you may need 3 sticks of ram for an ideal triple channel RAM setup, therefor possibly making 6gb of RAM the way to go.
this depends on what chip you get. the older 1156 chipset uses triple channel. the 1155 chipset (which i recommend since it is newer and better), uses dual-channel. don't forget that, whichever chipset you end up going with.

u mean the lga1366?
yeah, you're right. my point being that triple channel isn't used anymore.

here is a good game comparison to see how closely the 2600 and 2500 perform:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/...core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/20

valve's particle simulation benchmark can be misleading btw. actual game performance is way more useful imo. i mean, the i7 980x does the best in that benchmark, it has 12 cores (6 physical, 6 virtual). the 2600k has 8 cores(4 real, 4 virtual), and the 2500k has 4(all real). hyperthreading actually matters in that benchmark, unlike in 9 out of 10 games.

does that mean hyper-threading isn't going to be a bigger deal in the future? not at all. but for now it isn't.

Don't forget Death,
that these cpus are all still pretty close together in performaance. You could get yourself a first gen i7 850 and still be quite maw fuckin happy. It really depends on whether you want bragging rights as a benchmarker.

I just bought a beautiful 24" monitor and a G9x gaming mouse and it made me realize that there are a lot of improvements you can make to a computer that make it better. I feel like i have a new computer again because of the high def LED display. Can't believe I used that shit 19" lcd this long.

I don't like the combo tbh, the power supply is definitely sketchy, your going to want a lot better video card then a 250 and a proper hard drive for your operating system. What do you have right now death????? IF your budget is in $600 range, go for AMD or just upgrade GPU+Power Supply, and/or add an SSD.

Gaming rig with new i5+i7 your looking at something like this:

It's a clearance item, hence the old-ness.. the $0.97 suffix in the price tells you this (industry secret ;) )

Anyway, most of the stuff there is Diablotek - an ALRIGHT company, nothing special. The cpu and ram are good, mobo is OK, the rest I wouldn't trust, to be honest. The case could be good, but I don't know it.

yes death stay away from tigers deals, you will regret getting them. i5 is a good processor for you but I am in agreement with some of the others here. don't waste your hard earned $ buying shit that isn't on sale. so many different components go for cheap from so many different sites every week its sickening. just check the big sales (ncix has a decent one every week) and use shopbot.ca to compare pricing to make sure you are getting things from the right place.
ALSO, i recommend buying solely from NCIX to save on shipping and just use the price matching they offer to save on shipping costs by getting everything from one place. it's easy you just paste the link on the site and it automatically matches any online competitor's price in Canadian funds.

Right now the i5 2500K is the best bang for buck bar none. It runs fast out of the box and with an unlocked multiplier the overclock potential means it'll still be fierce when Intel releases Ivy Bridge.
