Building Computer! HALP

Kymap!

DARKLY Regular
So basically, my computer is garbage!

I know absolutely nothing about computers other than how to play games on them... I was wondering if anyone would be able to point me in the right direction as far as building my own, reasonably priced, computer! I get terrible FPS on half the maps in CS:S, which says alot considering its not that graphic intensive. My power supply is apparently terrible, as well as my ... everything.

Any help would be lovely!

I'm no expert but I could offer a bit of advice if you needed it.

You never really need to go silly expensive with a PC, I spent just under £400 and it runs completely fine.
Sure I have to turn the settings down on a few games but I honestly don't mind, it's 100x better than the laptop I used before it.

What you can get completely depends on the price range you are thinking about.

I recommended this build for my GF's brother. He wanted something that could play a majority of games on high setting at a decent resolution (22-24" monitors) with enough horsepower to last a year or two.

Anyway, for basically $1000, this rig should be fine. Other members will probably swap some parts for others. Look for the deals.

this looks like a good list, 2500K is $10 cheaper at Infonec though. I'd also consider going for an SSD over an HDD just because they're a fair bit faster (it won't store as much, but you can probably reuse your current HDD ... unless it's IDE (pre-SATA ribbon cable garbage)). You also settle for a way cheaper motherboard, that Deluxe model looks great for overclocking but if you don't really do that a lot it's just going to be a waste
