Big weddings cost lots of money, but also MAKE lots of money... there's a reason behind it all. However, if you don't have the seed money to make it all happen in the beginning, then forget it. Look at things realistically, and create a heirarchy of who should be pleased first. For starters, you and your fiance first, then parents of both sides, then siblings/family... That's a good way to start in my opinion.

ive been involved in planning my cousins wedding this upcoming september. all i can say to you is do what makes YOU happy! All the bullshit my cousin's ol lady is doing to please this person and that is totally wrecking the experience for them. mostly because my poor cousin has to put up with all the bitching.
Seriously, I know its nice to get the family involved but only invite those who you want to be there. also, there are lots of ways to raise cash for a wedding. Stag & Doe for starters. just dont get pushed around by other people and keep it simple.

That stag and doe crap is only a Canadian thing we don't do that here. That came up the other day with a friend of my dad who lived in Canada who lives here now cause his younger nephew is about to get married just had one of those lol. Surprisingly things are coming together ok...
My dad had mention giving me $5000 and her family can't do much and neither can my mom but I could easily take out the other $5000 in a loan with my credit cause its really good. We already have a basic list of who and its going to be about 125 people and hopefully less :). She used to work at a super nice golf course which she mentioned she could get us in there cause she worked a wedding there that cost the couple $4000 and they got it catered for 85 people and it was open bar. OPEN BAR! Id be willing to easily pay $5500 for that place with and open bar. If you think about it for 100 people at %50 bucks a plate for food that's already $5000 so if I payed $5000-$6000 for 125 for food hall and open bar that makes it so much easier.
My cousin If I'm lucky but I'm sure he will is going to marry us so that will help. So all in all with my family's help things should be a lot less stressful then I thought. Until it gets closer that is then I'm sure some shit will hit the fan...
