People have been banned for advertising other servers before.
Not by me, by LB.
But we have a plugin that stops people from posting IP addresses now.
Someone tried to post the IP of the actual server and it stopped them from doing so.
I only know because it tells me that someone tried to post an IP.
Also, people usually just ask things like that of their friends, and personally, I don't mind if they tell their friends IPs over PM so they can play together.
But posting something along the lines of 'Join my server, it's so much better than this one, blah blah' Is trying to take members away from the server, and isn't allowed.
Just my opinion anyway.

while this is a valid point, it doesn't appear that dude actually posted a link or IP.
You have to understand just how big this community is too. We're one of the top playing servers in Source, and I'm assuming from what I've seen from all the servers, a top community in TF2 too. It's not going to hurt so much if he draws a couple of curious folks to private message him and ask to play there. Especially if he's just asking once, and not every 5 minutes.

You know, I completely left out the fact that he didn't even post the IP in my reply. Slipped my mind.
I was just giving the facts behind what could be classed as bannable and such.

Just asking. If I did say yes, I would suppose that he would give me his IP, hence advertising.
I denied the request from him to join his server, because he wanted me to use Hamachi.
