so my dad has a shitload of viruses/spyware and malware preventing him from doing anything. i was able to boot his computer up in safemode and downloaded avast so i could run a full scan.

i was wondering if any of you know of any good free spyware/malware programs.

i personally use "malwarebytes' anti malware" and "super anti spyware", are there any other programs you guys use?

thanks in advance

Yah, i was thinking id run the scans first and what not and worse case scenario tell him to reformat.

When i hopped on it, shit kept popping up saying hes being hacked and someone is going through his computer. I was trying to figure out what the fuck he did to get into this mess.

His "virus protection" program, some 2010/2011 shit (didnt take note of the name) that came with his computer apparently found alot of spyware/malware and to remove it he has to purchase the full version (lol) by buying it online (entering his cc info and etc), which is a joke since the program itself just said someone is going through his shit and monitoring him lol.

Ah the AV2010-2011 virus. He's fucked and should just reformat. That virus is a bitch and a half to clean out fully. It puts files in you're windows folder so if it gets deleted it will auto reinstate on the next reboot.

Hey SB, I had a viscious virus on my comp about a year ago. Formatting wouldnt even get rid of it. I couldnt connect to the internet with the virus so here is what i did:

-Make it so you can connect to the internet via safe mode.
-Download Malware Bytes, and CC cleaner.
-Even in safe mode, the virus was preventing me from updating Malware Bytes and CC cleaner. So download the patches off a different computer, save to USB and install on the infected computer.
-Run malware bytes and CC cleaner several times until everything is gone.
-If you want to be super safe, re-format after this, then run malware bytes and CC cleaner again.

The AV2011 virus isn't known to hide out in the host protected area. It's very very unlikely it will survive reformating.

BIOP are you sure the virus wasn't on another networked drive or CD that you were using to back up files with? I think its more likely that you had a infected word file or something that you brought over to the clean OS.

Either way SB you're safest bet is to delete all you're partitions and reformate. It won't survive.

or if you are super paranoid use a program to wipe you're whole disk and master boot record before reformating

it cannot survive that

It may have not been the AV2011, when I read about the virus I had, it was known that formatting may not get rid of it. I can't remember the name, I got it off of Ninjavideo in 2010.

Mac's are for emo fags who want to make a fashion statement.

Macs aren't so bad. Regardless, not a valid "solution".

Just reformat and reinstall. You could spend 20 hours trying to clean out the registry and shit and finally get it working... and then have him say "It's so slow..." because it's windows and needed a format anyways. Windows needs reformatted every couple years, specially when you're doing so much stupid shit as to corrupt it that bad.

The best part about macs is it's super easy to pick out a game, because there are 8 of them that work on macs.

The best part about a Mac is that it's mere existence trolls fags like you that don't understand the differences. As far as gaming, if that's your primary concern don't get one. That being said, I'm a windows software developer and feel like a fish out of water on a Mac. Doesn't mean everything foreign to you is bad, just different.

/Mac discussion please, help with problem or gtfo

After im done running all the scan programs ill see if its still there. If it is, well too bad for him, ill tell him he has to reformat.

When i mentioned reformatting to him, he wasnt too happy... apparently he has alot of music/pictures from vacation and shit on there.

Oh and he added that he didnt have a virus scanner/protection for about 4 months now... good job dad, good job.

If you can get into the system from safemode there's no reason he has to lose his data. Just throw them onto an external hard drive. There's a SLIGHT possibility of reinfection but it's really not that likely. I wouldn't backup any .exe's as a precaution, but def grab his images and shit.
