For those of you that don't know, the Black Rose is a promotional knife for the Spy. When I heard it was promotional, I figured that the promotion period already passed. However, I was pleased to learn today that it is still active.

To get the Black Rose, all you have to do is download and install a free Steam game called Alliance of Valiant Arms and get the first achievement: 1st One Down. To get this achievement, you need to create a character and play your first game.

I'm currently downloading the game myself and I will tell you how it turns out. Anyway, thought you all might want to know. Enjoy!

I already got it a while ago but thanks for the info.
However, I didn't download or even play the game.

I used an achievement manager cause I was too lazy and just gave myself the achievement :P

:whatyoudid:Then you are missing out.
I only use it to get free TF2 Items from achievements on F2P games.
I mean...what's the difference...it costs Steam nothing cause it's a free game. Just saves myself download and play time :3
I don't use it for games I need to pay for because that's just cheating myself and steam. :P

If only I had a clean one.

Dirty, though when you have a download speed of approx. 90 KB/s...

So there is a risk in using this ?

Valve has never specifically mentioned anything about achievement unlockers specifically (achievement servers, anyone?), which based from history is Valve's way of saying it's ok for the time being (cash trading, among numerous other occasions), but they HAVE explicitly stated that the use of outside programs to manipulate the item system are strictly prohibited. This occurred following the mass use of SteamStats, a program that ran the game engine in a console-based environment, allowing players to idle for items without taxing their computer with leaving the full game open. Valve enacted this in 2009, and those golden halos you occasionally see people wearing, the Cheater's Lament, was awarded to all players who didn't use the program. Since this was TF2-specific and this program here is Steam-wide, it's not specifically addressed, but I would avoid using it along with any other external program if you want to be completely safe.

Don't be such a debbie downer Gatherix.
I used it several times like over a year ago or longer and nothing has happened to me.

I suppose if Valve punished players for doing things that aren't (probably deliberately so), we'd all be in trouble...

Rams Let me reiterate; It hasn't been specifically defined as ok to use so you can't say it's completely safe, but Valve has unofficially "okayed" things in a similar fashion before, so it's probably fine to use.
