Elections 2012

Your rants, conspiracies, fears, praise, comments...keep it clean...this could get messy.

I, like the majority of the world watching America, am glad the voting majority came to the right decision. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20008687 20/21 nations wanted Obama, and they got it.

In all honesty, would having Romney as president been better off? I mean seriously, dismantling 4 years of progress (no matter how divisive or controversial or disliked and hated) is not a step forward by any means. Whether u like Obama or not, switching presidents of two separate parties and ideals thinking work can be done is silly. It is hard enough to get big changes from gov't in 4 years, what would Mitt really have done to change the political landscape besides polarize it?

In all seriousness.

If Romney got rid of the Health-care bill that alone would have been enough for him to deserve to win. Also who cares what other nations want. Im sure places like China and Iran are loving this since Obama is a laughing stock when it comes to foreign policy. The problem here is like Ommission pointed out in another thread. "Every four years everyone becomes a political guru".

Your glad the popular vote won lol I bet 60% of the voters couldn't name the vice president or if he was black or white.

To be fair iCe, no one really gives 2 shits about Paul Ryan (White) or Joe Biden (White). Vice President :yaoming:

Here is the problem when we have a discussion you take the easiest thing to pick out of what is written and make a joke about it. And they should care about the vice president.

Also Brades is correct. FACT is Obama spent more in 2 years than bush spent in 8.

I'm sorry if I made a 'joke' out of it, but to be fair, my comment has a bit of truth behind it. Majority of people really don't care too much about the vice presidential run, especially when it is completely dwarfed by the shadow of the presidential campaign. Your comment sums it up, "I bet 60% of the voters couldn't name the vice president or if he was black or white."

I agree, people probably should care more about the VP, but again when advertising $s are multiples larger for a spotlight on the president vs VP, who do you think people are gonna be more aware of and remember?

My problem here is they shouldn't have to advertise. If these people can not research or answer simple questions they should not have the right to vote. If I ever became president I would deport half this country.

well, this election apparently raised and spent $6 billion...that's a lot of advertising dollars and I doubt that will change until campaign regulations clamp down on how much lobbyists and committees can donate in america

my rant

Obama got his second chance, but the House is not going to give him the power he deserves.

I predict that the Republican majority will now try harder to ass fuck the Democrats on all fronts. I foresee a children's play-pen with foots stomping, arm crossing and noses raising melee of idiotardacy.

You now have a minority government. Laws will not pass, shit won't get done, Obama will be the scapegoat and in about 2 years there might be an impeachment or something similar.

The tragedy will be that the stubbornness of your own people will be the reason why things will go to hell.

A look at the political distribution of power clearly shows that America should be split into 3 sections, the east, the center south and the west. You will all live much happier lives when your government aligns with the people.

The values for which you once stood have been lost.

Things are only going to get worse, unfortunetly.

I agree with you fork that the republican majority house really puts american gov't into a deadlock and standstill over the big legislation.

I dunno if it will be harder or easier though this term. If you check, it looks like while the repubs still hold majority, that they lost quite a number of seats this time around too with the possibility of dems securing a few more. Obama + dems were able to squeeze out some unprecedented legislation despite being outnumbered then.

I would be hopeful that they could still manage to find a way to get things done but yea, they could just be real childish dicks and try harder to filibuster everything Obama + dems bring to the plate.

http://www.skymachines.com/US-National-Debt-Per-Capita-Percent-of-GDP-and-by-Presidental-Term.htm

Bush was by far a worse offender when it came to national debt. He increased it because of a MILD recession and kept on spending.

http://articles.marketwatch.com/201...2270_1_spending-federal-budget-drunken-sailor

Nice article by the Wall Street Journal. Points out that CONGRESS plays a huge part is the budgeting process...Obama could draw up a $4 trillion dollar budget, but unless Congress approves it, it isn't going to happen. The deficit spiked during his term primarily because revenue fell off a cliff, not because of a huge increase in spending.

Also Obamacare has been forecast to REDUCE spending by the Congressional Budget Office. Personally I like Obamacare its not perfect, but I think it addresses something that you could appreciate Ice: freeloaders. If you don't have health insurance and you go into a hospital today they are obligated to treat you regardless of your ability to pay. So what do the hospitals do? They pass the costs onto those that do have insurance (like me) so they can continue to operate. If you make EVERYONE get coverage it ensures that you have such a large pool of covered individuals that people with the really expensive conditions don't bankrupt the system. Also by pushing preventative care so hard in Obamacare it has the potential to stop problems from becoming the huge expensive problems down the road. Finally you should LOVE the mandate to provide free contraceptives...contraception has been shown to *GASP* reduce the need for abortions and it'll probably also result in those who are less able to afford having children from having them (and reducing the need for welfare, food stamps, and the like).

^ @Skd: My gf's great aunt in New York state was diagnosed with cancer recently without adequate medical insurance. She is in retirement, no longer employed, and after having 2 chemotherapy sessions and consults, just TWO, her medical bill totaled over $120k. Yes, that is $120,000. She and her husband had to sell their home and is essentially now bankrupt. This terrible ailment compounded now by financial burden...all because she doesn't have health insurance coverage.

You may think she didn't work hard enough or get a good job with an HMO, but she worked hard her whole life with her husband running a small business. I highly doubt a scenario such as this is uncommon in America today...yet there is such divisive lines between PrObamacare and repealing it completely which I find absurd. Even IF costs were to increase for an American by $3k, wouldn't knowing that when the day a heart attack/cancer/disease strikes (which it will almost undoubtedly), that you can go to a hospital or visit a specialist without first talking to your bank and selling your home or calling an insurance rep to be told you aren't covered? As Skd mentioned, Obamacare will save american individuals $ in the end.

At least in Canada, we don't have to sell our homes to get readily available and accessible chemotherapy or other life-saving treatments. While I don't disagree at all that America has the finest healthcare out there and that sometimes Canadians with rare illnesses/complications have to foot the bill to head south to survive...such cases are far more uncommon.

To be perfectly clear I was stating I'm in support of Obamacare. I don't doubt that your girlfriend's great aunt is broke due to her condition...I was simply pointing out that it is illegal in the states to deny care based upon the lack of ability to pay. That's not to say it doesn't ruin people however...

Turbo thats terrible, and no one should suffer.

However the choices we make effect us all. You can be a teacher/cop/fireman/garbage man and have great health-care with retirement or you can become a banker/lawyer and go for greed (and may have to worry about retirement and health-care). Everyone has sob stories man and I'm not saying its right, but shit happens.

skd_mrk - LOLS at you bringing Bush into the conversation. How about we go back to Clinton and the housing bubble. And your argument on freebies is invaild, since we will be paying higher taxes.
