Can anyone direct me to the best place to get the service packs 1a, 2, 3, for windows xp home edition that I need.

Windows is a fucker and apparently wont allow you to download from their website or auto update anymore... trying to make us buy their shit new operating versions instead..

any help would be great. I am downloading the IT versions but I dont know if these will conflict with my home edition once i try to install them.

AwwNo.

Sounds like a good time for an upgrade to Win7

P.s. you're doing it right, the IT versions will install fine but I think you only need SP3.

thanks cock.

I just remember the last time i did it, i had to reinstall packs in order or the thing kept fucking up. maybe they fixed the sp3 to complete everything in one. A way it should have been done originally?!

Any suggestions on download I may need for a computer starting over from scratch let me know, i'm at work and I am DLing all the shit I can to save on my home usage for this rebuild lol!

It's time for an upgrade. They're going to do the same to Windows Vista in the next 2 I think, maybe 3 years, shutting down the supplemental support.

I think my friend has OEM copies of Windows XP Professional and Home Edition, but you'll need a key, if you still have it attached somewhere to your PC, I could give you the link. It starts at SP2 or 3, I'll have to check but being OEM with no manufacturer or bloatware attached yet, you can still access downloads even though the support ended. However, that means you can only download what's left.

Or, if you're ready to upgrade, I can provide you with an RTM copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit.

While not many like Microsoft, this is a good link to determine if you're ready, all software will be available and there's compatibility support, good one, but Hardware is the issue. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor

Of course I have my product key, I just have found it difficult to download the updates easily. I have the sp3 IT version Cock confirmed, so I will load that this evening.

My xp has served me well and I think I will hold onto it for a little while yet. my version has gone from my 2001 Gateway laptop to my current custom desktop, and I cant complain. the day microsoft makes their OS $4 is the day i go out and buy windows 7 ;)

I have win 7 on my work laptop and its nothing special.

how much longer do you think I can hold onto my Nvidia Geforce 8800? lol I worry new games will forced me to get a new video card soon

My favourite way was using nlite, in combination with an original Windows XP image:

1 ) Copy image from disk to C:/desired location
2 ) Download and install nLite (this will allow you to 'cook' all hotfixes, service packs etc. into one, neatly packed image) - http://www.nliteos.com/download.html
3 ) List of hotfixes, service packs etc. I have not verified the integrity of the links posted on this page (can't remember where I attained the original SP's from - http://mimo.zxq.net/updatelist.htm
4 ) Once XP disk data and required SP's/hotfixes/updates are saved to a convenient spot, use nLite to cook it all into an image and burn away as an ISO (nLite will output as an ISO, I think) with your favourite program.
5 ) Enjoy :)

**All software is legal, freeware available to all.

I call myself pretty computer literate... but you might as well have typed that in Chinese, because I my eyes glazed over..

I should be fixed this evening, and then we'll see if I can get a game loaded or two, I feel like my harddisk had a fatal error because everything vanished and all I had left was an empty start menu LOL.. :( I mean Completely empty

Do you have an avaliable PCI slot, if any open at all? If not, then its time for a new rig all together. The 8800 isn't that dated but I found that if you can't run Battlefield 3/COD:MW3, then you probably need a new card. And I mean running on the minimum settings.

Sorry, I was half asleep. If all your stuff is gone, then maybe you corrupted one of the files in the System folder.

So what exactly are you planning to do? Wiping it and starting with a new copy?

@Brades: The RTM copy isn't a ware, its an unmodified copy before releasing to OEMs. Downloading the Activators/anything else is illegal. If they have a key, they can use it without issue. Otherwise, Microsoft Links would probably not appear on there.

I have just reinstalled everything :( not too troublesome once i confirmed the IT service packs with your guys. The worst download is this counter strike source... 4 gigs.. wow old games still take 2 hours to download.. My Xp seems to work fine for a few years before screwing up, it definitely has been worth the original cost of it in 2001 LOL..

I appreciate your advice Jakk, I had to run BF3 on my laptop because of the windows 7 requirement.. I found that very annoying they must have collected a nice $ from microsoft for that push/

That, my friend, is what we call a Start Menu Hijack. It is, indeed, a virus. We used to call this one the "Hide-Me" virus. By any chance, did all the items on your desktop go missing as well?
If so, there's a high probability that your computer had this virus. There is a method I use to fix it, without losing any data and without corrupting any of the OS.

If this shit happens again, just holler and we'll try and get you going!

sounds likely. I tried to restore my system but the restore point couldn't get past the Next button. start menu, desktop, you name it. I had my task manager tell me the administrator turned it off.. and I am the administrator lol WTF.

I hadn't downloaded anything so how I got a virus is odd, but it may have been sitting there for months or years after I've downloaded torrents of Music Albums.

Aye, she's a cunt, that 'hide-me' virus. I've never seen an antivirus properly detect it, nor prevent it properly (but I guess we never see an antivirus do good work, do we lol). I think it's hard to detect because it's not actually a virus, per se. It just changes permissions on everything under your user account name, and hijack's (hides) all start-menu and files associated with that current user. The virus does not affect other users, hence my fix of migrating data to another profile etc. etc. n more steps n stuff.

Either way, glad you got it sorted ;)

some good news out of the bad.

it would appear CSS is running with a sub 15 ping now, opposed to 20-35 prior to this meltdown.

Amazing! I can actually kill people now. My hardware actually seems to be working better as well.. ODD
