Windows Key DIY

Came across this very straightforward registry edit to disable your "Windows Key" (fixed it a little), and thought I'd share it will all uze hommies.

(This is guaranteed to work on vista, not sure about other OS though)


1) Goto Start -> Run/Seach and Type Regedit

2) Browse to My Computer>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Control>Keyboard Layout

3) On the right hand side pane, right click NEW>Binary Value

4) This creates a new entry called "New Value #1" with Type "REG_BINARY" and Data as zero-length binary value.

5) Rename "New Value #1" to "Scancode Map"

6) Right Click and click "Modify Binary Data" and enter "0000 0000 0000 0000 0300 0000 0000 5BE0 0000 5CE0 0000 0000"

(It might automatically have "00 00" already, do not count that as the start of your code, or it will not work. You need to enter the entire thing.)

7) Close everything and restart your computer.

If you ever want your windows key back, delete the entry you made.

If you have one, the Logitech gaming keyboards have a switch so you can turn it on and off. looks like a joystick and a monitor. slide it over to the joystick
