Who has the best machine here? Worst?

I wouldn't bother with the 960. A 930 is $200 or less and can easily be overclocked with no additional voltage to 3.2 (even with HT and Turbo you reach 2.9 GHz).

I believe the 960 is unlocked. Meaning you can really tweak that bitch to push sick speeds with low voltage... I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure.

I've got a wolfdale 8400 stock 3.0 ghz oc'ed to 3.9 on air :) But I wish I was even remotely savvy to modify anything other then the FSB. I wish I can go faster.

geekass mothafuckas! i love how this thread is 7 pages :) i have:

c2d e7400 2.8 OC -> 3.5ghz
2gb 667 RAM
asus p5q
asus geforce 9800 gt
thermaltake 650W PSU

i really want a i5 665k (32nm litho + unlocked multiplier = WOOOO!) but shit is expensive with the cost of mobo and ram and blah. im gonna just buy faster ddr2 and a new water cooling rad then see how far the c2d can go before its hymen breaks.

I wouldn't buy faster ram, just get anothet 2 gb's to match. Everytime you overclock the cpu, then overclock the ram, you get tighter timings with slower speed, but it ends up being faster than just the Mhz-rated speed itself. Bomb dizz.

well that's the thing, i'd need to underclock the ram to pull 3-3-3-9 timing so if i got 1066mhz ram underclocked to 800mhz it would yield fast timing and there would still be room to overclock the cpu further and maintain a 1:1 FSB/RAM ratio.

besides, i'm still running 32-bit, so adding more ram won't improve anything

lol, took long enough to get back to this post.

I went with the rampage gene III in the end because I could. I went micro because I didnt need a full size MoBo. Also I went with the antec 300 hundred which is smaller case cause of cost.

System is workin like a wet dream now and I cant wait to upgrade my GPU

yes the 960 is unclocked which is why i paid more for it. someday ill get a third party cooler and really get my money's worth.

i surely fit in the worst category,

Amd 64 3000+ (clawhammer) slightly oc'd
Acs Nforce MoBo
1.75 ghz, ram
200 gig seagate barracuda
160 gig maxtor
Nvidia 7300gt 256g pci-e slightly oc'd
Creative blaster 5:1
Creative fatal1ty 5:1 gaming head set.
Samsung 22" Sync Master 2253 lw 8000:1
Logitech old ass trackball mouse
7 fans

and a banana split waffle cone...

I built this bad boy like 6, 7 years ago LOL.. it's considered OLD now but i don't play much other than cs. Only reason to build a new one would be to play BF2. But i'm still CS'ing since the first version! SO with a few minor tweaks, i can make cs run okay on this build:

+AMD athlon 3500+ slightly OC'd
+MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo
+Nvidia 6800 GT slightly OC'd
+4GB DDR RAM
+2x Seagate 80GB SATA HARD DRIVES
+1x Western Digital External 300 GB HD
+On board 5.1 surround sound with Panasonic headset
+Samsumg Flat panel TV/Monitor 19"
+Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 (BEST MOUSE EVER MADE OUT OF ALLT HE MOUSES EVER MADE. SRSLY)
+Saitek gaming keyboard

???? you mean nvidia fail?
[/quote1283578633]

i have 5850, its a crysis killer card but the rendering is not the same as nvidia. nvidia has cooler looking graphics, i cant explain it.

I hear NVidea has better 'tesalation' that would give you a better quality looking detail. But at the cost of cpu and fps, so if you take away that, ATI has better cards. Ish. It's up for debate at that point :)

Im not certain at this pint, but I'm leaning towards getting a new ATI card rather than SLI another 8800 GTS 512 with my old one. directX 11 worth it?
