I know what you mean. I turned down piano because I didn't want to be forced to learn something -- my parents were cool like that where they never forced me to do anything I didn't want to -- but now I wish they had...

...although I might not enjoy/want to play it now because I would've resented it. It's a lose-lose IMO.
