Want a SSD

Birthday Present!

Any ideas and it has to be 120Gb at least (don't need a 256Gb) and no more than $220, this will go in my laptop. Is there any compatibility issues with what I am wanting to do.

I am using that with windows xp, working pretty good, but had to move my steam folder over to a regular drive.

it looks good however for $10 more i could get the 1 i linked which I believe is much faster, do you know if this ssd would work in my laptop or are most ssd's compatible.

SSD only needs enough space to store your OS and games, media can go on HDDs. SSD is a real game-changer, the awesomeness of fast-loading everything cannot be understated

yeah, hdd's are super bottleneck with today's crazy computers.


from what ive seen, 120-128gb ones are best $/GB value.

Compared to how fast the CPU accesses RAM, the SATA interconnect is also a bottleneck. When I upgrade my mobo I plan to get a PCI-E SSD. They're up to 480GB with that now, if memory serves, but you could build a whole rig for what that costs.

Yea when I get a new system I'll be buying a cheap Sata SSD + PCI-E SSD.

OCZ makes some good drives. intel as well. sata3 is backwards compatible with sata2.

why did you have to move steam? just because of its size?

also, generally any ssd with sandforce is what you want (as in the ocz)

is sandforce like the 2nd gen ssd's ? like, my intel drives r like 270 read and 15 write, while my newer ssd is 275 read, 275 write ?

yea Sandforce/DuraClass is meant to be the final word in SSD tech. Probably not gonna see any other type of controllers in drives in the near future
