Top of the line.. go with nvidia 4XX series. A good upper-mid range is the old faithful GTX 285 if they still make them (last gen graphics hardware, but still solid. Im running a 260+ to this day still and have no issues with any game.. ever, and the 285 is easily above that).

If you like ATi the 5*** series cards are decent, depending which one you get. I personally think ATi is a pile of shit after several bad experiences I've had with them so I only buy nVidia now. But do whats right for the wallet.

Never had problems with ATI or Nvidia cards IMO.

The brand I appreciate the most is BFG and XFX as said. They both have 'lifetime' (10 year) warranties on their cards and BFG also offers a 1-year 'trade-up' program. Basically if ur card is getting 'old' u can send it to em and trade up to a newer card if u pay a difference.

Never bought and EVGA card, but I've heard good things from them too. Most Vid Card companies are focusing more on customer loyalty/satisfaction by making these lifetime warranty/trade up programs.

If ur basically playing CSS, that card is more than enough juice. Even for higher demanding games like BFBC2/COD/Crysis depending on ur resolution n stuff.

I am not sure if 1GB of GDDR5 RAM is a lot by today's standard now tho. Am I wrong?

also 35 if you ever had a hope in hell of playing games on linux, nVidia open source drivers will be a lot less hassle.

You put some ATI drivers on Ubuntu, there is a 50% or greater chance you will be staring at a blank screen after reboot.

I got a 6870 like 2 months ago now... I've had nothing but problems since :P

watching videos on the net makes my video card crash, I don't get a blue screen but I get like a pattern of colours on my screen and I have to restart, pisses me off... plays games beautifully, no problems or crashes yet....

I sent it back to NCIX and they said nothing was wrong with it and sent it back to me lol... I think it's my mobo :| EVGA nforce 680i.... I think it prefers nvidea, whenever I pop the geforce 8800 ultra in (old card), works perfectly fine, can watch videos, etc...

so now I need to buy a new mobo... and I dont want to just buy one that is compatible with my q6600, I would rather spend a little more and buy an i7 and mobo :P and ram
