Radeon HD 7870 LE is the best card under $250 right now.

The specs on SSD's can be difficult to decipher. The read/write speeds can be ignored, what you need to pay attention to are the various controllers employed.
The best price/performance SSD's are going to use a second gen SandForce controller:
  1. SandForce controller with Toggle DDR NAND (Mushkin Chronos Deluxe, Patriot Wildfire, OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS, OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G, Corsair Force GS)
  2. SandForce controller with Synchronous ONFi NAND (OCZ Vertex 3, Corsair Force GT, Kingston HyperX/HyperX 3K, Intel SSD 520)
  3. SandForce controller with Asynchronous ONFi NAND (OCZ Agility 3, Corsair Force 3, Mushkin Chronos, Patriot Pyro, OWC Mercury Electra 6G)
Number one is the fastest and most expensive (except maybe the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe, it goes on sale often), three is the cheapest and slowest. The performance differences, between the NAND's, aren't really noticeable in real life, so price is the main factor.

Also the Samsung 830, 840, and 840 Pro are excellent, and are often priced close to SandForce drives.

7870 LE is whoooping ass right now. Best Bang for $ bar none

Fuck SandForce

If you want Nvidia, get the 660 would be closer to $300

I hope SandForce gets anal raped

120Hz monitor, Ben Q makes a popular one Acer and Asus as well. - Look for a Display Port lower power, less EM/RF, low latency

I want the Axe Murderer to fight every SandForce executive, and then analy rape them. Maybe then they would feel my pain.

I would get a Vertex 4 SSD or any SSD with INDILINX Chip over SureFail, I mean, SandForce SSD.

Steve don't do it... your bail rate will increase ten fold with that much gaming power at your disposal

OCZ charges way to much for Indilinx, SandForce = way better price/performance, and I have never seen one fail first hand over the last two years. If absolute reliability is needed I would get a Crucial M4.

Yea, I deal with computers all day. My opinion is skewed

Edit: this sounds so passive aggressive lol, wasn't meant like that.

I never said your opinion is skewed, I value your opinion Cock. That does not mean I cannot disagree with you.

I also work with computers, and with current firmware SandForce is reliable in my experience. The failure rates I have seen with SandForce are no worse than other controllers (except Indilinx, whose cost isn't justified imo).

Edit: I should add that the SandForce fails I have seen were D.O.A. Not after extended use.

No no no, I'm fully saying my opinion is skewed.

I had a job as a hard drive recovery tech last year. The amount of Marvell:SandForce drives I got was about a 1:80 ratio. Never did see an Intel drive.

I bought a 240GB HyperX 3K SSD last year, it died with in a week. Hence my rage

Okay, that makes sense, I took it as sarcasm, sorry man. Working in repair will make the best of us jaded, I fully understand.

I've read walls of text on the failure rates of SandForce drives, I just haven't seen it first hand. And with manufactures offering good warranties I don't hesitate to recommend SandForce.

Samsung and Plextor have the best reliability it seems these days for SSDs.
I haven't experienced it myself, but the tech/software on this Plextor SSD is compelling (continued SSD speed, instead of the typical slowing).
For BB4$ (Best Bang for the Buck) video cards... I agree 660 is good, but if you're doing 660 do a 660ti .. but a 7870 is great BB4$ too.
Consider which of the 7870 or 660ti gets better performance for the games you play.

SSD
- Samsung 820/840D Pro Series
- Make sure you get a min. 256GB model, as that's the threshold where speeds are really seen.

GPU
- I don't like ATI/ATI Drivers, so someone else can fill in
- For that budget, 660/660Ti if on sale

Monitor
- Displayport, for cock's reasons above
- low latency (2ms or lower is a must)
- 120Hz - Once you go 120Hz, you don't go back

Good luck!

GPU - ATI for multi-display / nVidia for 3-D / if neither, then whichever has best performance in the games you play
