P.S. - Lightroom is a a joke. As long you know Photoshop you don't need anything else for image manipulation. That is the best program.

Lightroom is a cataloging system first and image adjustment tool second, it is not an image manipulation tool, never was, and never advertised itself as such. It was designed with the digital photographer in mind.

Clash, I looked at Wine ... but is not the best thing. It makes the games very slow ... it works for other software but not for games.

Fork ... I know what is Lightroom. I've worked with it and surprisingly it does extremely little for the money you pay. And if you need Lightroom to just organise your pictures on your computer ... that's a fail :).
I don't need a software to create some folders and copy/paste pictures :) or to view them. Your OS already has that functionality embedded :P.
And for the photo manipulation it does ... meah .. Photoshop can do the same and even better.
This was just another tool developed for photographers that don't have the patience to learn and work with Photoshop OR they just want to do things fast and automatic ... another money grab.

Going a little off the subject, the sad truth though is that you are not an actual professional photographer if you have to use software to make your work good/amazing ... is like ads for cosmetics. I would understand cropping an image ... but I don't understand "professionals" that click-o-click all day long and then they spend a month to fix the weeding photos :D.
And back on topic, Ubuntu has a couple of free software that does just what your Lightroom does ... quite well.

AGAIN ... in the end is just a matter of preference :).

^ Mike knows!

Sorry Clash, got it wrong! Yep, Wine will work for Adobe products ... and many others.

But then again there are other rumours that say Adobe might have in plan to release their software for Linux as well ... so let's hope ...

35, i dont know what you mean by actual professional, i know a good number of people who get paid to take photographs, myself included, that use post-processing for their final work.

are you a jpeg shooter?

remember that RAW does not store jpeg presets, a RAW image out of a camera will always look like crap, no matter what camera, and no matter what photographer. You NEED software to process the RAW files into a customer-friendly, finished product.

And I can't believe i have to explain this to you, of all people.

BTW, thanks for dissing my work, guess i'm just a chum.

How did I was making fun of your work!? WTF!?
Where is the phrase where I say "Your work sucks!"!? You take things too personally.
I was just expressing an opinion on what I think a pro photographer means ... fcking hell ...

And yes, I know about RAW ... sheshhh ... lighten up dude.

And if you want to have a glance of my work, then go here: www.creativelines.ca

I say glance because those are old stuff and I just don't have the time for now to update my portfolio. And yes ... except cropping and converting to JPEG format, there was NO alternation.
Now go eat a B===D ---!

you say that people who spend time tweaking their photos are not real photographers

everything that i have ever posted has been adjusted in lightroom to some degree.

particularly photographs taken in bright sunlight, where you can usually extract 2 stops if not more from the highlights, something the system will not automatically do for you, same for shadows.

if you just hit jpeg export, you might as well just shoot in jpeg, save yourself a whole lot of time, wont even need a program for that. But you know all this, right?

You guys are really dumb ... honestly.
What part of the "just my opinion" and "in the end is a preference" you do not understand? Or you just enjoy trolling ... or you are so touchy that everything you read you automatically think is directed to you?

Regarding JPEGs "Mr I know everything" ... I exported as JPEG because those images are used for web - as you see them. And as you all mighty already know, you don't fucking use TIFF or any other similar format to show on a web page. That said ... I still have the RAW images and I still can use them to export to whatever format I want or require.

And when I said what I said regarding the professional photographer, I was saying that IN MY OPINION a pro is someone that knows what its doing and knows how to "shape" the light in order to get an excellent picture that you do not have to modify at all. Think for a second and go back to film photography. That's where true photographers shine. There is no editing! You click and that's it. What is important is how you prepare yourself for the shot. Once you modify a picture you create a fiction ... is not reality - you mimic it.

Now ... moving away from what I THINK is IDEAL ...

Cock, never said that using software like "Lightroom" is a bad thing ... I was saying that there are free versions that can give you extremly good results if you know how to use them and take the time to learn it.

What I find useless is to use those programs JUST to organise your photography in folders ... IMHO is just dumb and a waste of money to pay for that.
Amother thing I was saying is that IMHO if you really know how to use Photoshop you DO NOT need any other software for photo manipulation.

And I might not be one that smashes his chest like a fucking monkey to say "I am a photographer", but just to let you know, I have been doing Photography for ... well ... about 17 years and did make a living out of it.
Started with 35mm film cameras (that's where my nick name is coming), moved to 120mm and a beautifull Yahsica (still have it) and so on...
So don't fucking patronize me because like it or not I might have some ideas of what true Photography actually means ...
I'm sure Death could probably give you a few lesons as well.

Fucking trolls ...
