Any one of you geeks out there is using Ubuntu and installed Steam and CS:S on it?

If you know a good tutorial that walks you trough the steps, please share :).

Thanks!

I heard different opinions ... some say it runs very well, some say it doesn't ... I guess is how you install it and if you have all the drivers installed properly ...
Anyway, in the end is trial and error and I'm bored ... so I'll give it a try :)

Thanks man!

if you have a decent machine just install VMWare and make a windows virtual machine. EZMODE

you could also try WINE which is a windows emulator.
other than that there are paid solutions that suck balls cause it's FUCKING LINUX

Dual boot if you want Linux. Your performance will suffer in anything less than a native application.

That's what I have ... a dual boot. Actually Ubuntu is installed under Windows and I have the option to run either one of them at start up.

D: yeah - I hear that running CS source on Lonix is more trouble than its worth. Its too bad, because Linux would really see a boost in the amount of users who use it as their Primary OS if they could get gaming going well.

Linux is for the proles.

Windows does everything 99.99% of all computer users need.

Having dual-boot just proves the uselessness of Linux.

your argument only works if you rely on Linux for 100% of your work.

If you dual-boot, you're still paying for windows! Derp.

que. senior? Your statement was about Linux, not dual booting.

You said that the dual boot proves the uselessness, which would imply that Linux was always useless, but having it in a dual boot environment actually proves this to be the case.

Pero, on the contrary, being free is quite the useful quality.

Yes, i said that linux is useless, because if it was useful, you would not need to dual boot.

The fact that as a gamer, you need windows to play all of our beloved games, means that you are logged in through windows most of the time.

and if you log into ubuntu just to browse porn and type up text documents, well, then, i offer this:

Unless of course you are a hacker or network developer, and even then..
(and yes i am breaking chat because the light-box menu is too gay)

If Windows wasnt such a failboat I wouldn't have to dual boot.

sure, Linux is totally useless for gamers :) but it's a still a pretty useful Operating System.
[/quote1295448020]

for what?

i use my computer for text/word, games, and photo-editing software.

ubuntu would only handle 1/3 of those, considering how much more advanced Adobe's products are compared to GIMP.

you won't find many photographers who are hard-core linux users, the software is just not up to the industry standards

For people who simply use PCs to open documents, check their e-mail, and browse the web? I don't have the exact numbers with me, but I would imagine that they make up a fair bit of the computer user base.
