When I used to listen to rap back in the early 90's when Run DMC, tribe called quest were among my favourites and they would be considered mainstream rap, a little afterwards gangster rap appeared and dominated. Groups like Public enemy, NWA, Wutang took over the whole rap scene and its never been the same since.

Yeah I've seen this before too, it's such laughable bullshit. The 90s was a hot decade for music in general, gangsta rap wasn't promoted above anything else and the artists sure as fuck didn't make life easy for the labels which is why so many of them split off and started their own labels. The "industry" never controlled hip-hop, it was like the wild west for them trying to hunt down the hottest new artists to get them signed so they could make some profit. Funny thing is the industry didn't even want to deal with the realest gangster MCs because it was such a bitch just getting them off the stoop and into the studio.

To me, this is a joke, and I ignore it fully and wholeheartedly. These people clearly have nothing better to do but stir shit up completely out of the blue.
