47 why dont you just use a ssd for your os, then put all of your files on a big TB hard drive? perhaps you could fit your steam folder on your ssd too.

ok, so i decided to go with the 40gb ssd. win7 takes up 16gb. 40gb in fat32 = about 37gb (guessing) so ill have about 20gb+ for steam and stuff. should i do it !? games are huge nowadays, up to 4gb.

I say FUCK SSD for now, save that money for the video card 47.
[/quote1273463828]

Yup, just get a 7200RPM 250/320/500GB 32MB cache SataII and you're gold. SSD is good n shit, but it's still new, fucks up, and not enough storage space.

you will be able to load your game faster, like map change and shit, but is it worth it? SSD still evolving, down the road, it will get better and cheaper when it hit mainstream, so right now it's not the time for SSD unless you're like SUPER rich .. lol

Don't buy a SSD that is smaller than 60GB.

Either spend the money to get a good one, or don't get it at all.

a 40GB will be filled by an OS and 1 game...

more like as long as you aren't on the welfare..

SSD's are totally worth it.

but if you buy a SSD expect to have to RMA it in the first 6 months :P

write speeds are not much faster than hdd, but read times are insane.

a..

single-disk
1 terabyte
32mb/s
7200RPM

cost about 80-100 bucks

you put two of these in raid, and you blow any single piece SSD out of the water for a meter 200 bucks, and loads of storage.

I just took a course on bus speeds, hard disk management, raid, etc so I should be able to contribute to this conversation but I fucked off the whole time so I'm worthless.

the new SSDs are approaching 300MB/s speeds read and write...

seek time is like .1-.2 ms

LOL @ Auron hahaha, that's funny man

@ Dead Mike - You have a point, regarding your last post, however, here's the deal (my opinion here, not fact): Sata II does 300MB/s, but when do you ever see that speed? I never hit anything CLOSE to that, in any case. Seek time is decent (32MB cache here on a 250GB) at about 7ms, but SSD can do .1-.2 like you said, that's insanely faster.

Just think, when gaming or editing etc. that's gonna improve a shitload of things. Normally, on any system, the HDD is the end-all bottleneck because the process is constantly reading/writing to and from it, so the end-user should notice huge improvements while maximizing the potential from all the other high-end components...

I think it's worth it if you have the cash, if not, it will definately be worth it once the price is more comparable to Sata.

Great. Now I'm sitting here debating laying out a couple hundred to snag some SSD to put into RAID 0. I was sitting on the fence saying the expense didn't justify the effort (esp high failure rate).

Way to go douche bags.
