...one of the drives of my RAID0 has died I believe -- so I lost all my shows (10 seasons of CSI, a bunch of Jap. dramas, Criminal Minds, etc.) FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

And just earlier this month I was thinking of getting a Drobo to back up all my shit too. Man I hope my MB doesn't suddenly decide to die on me or I'm fucked.

I'm on my MB right now, so I can still surf the net etc. It's more of the fact that I want to try and salvage whatever I can (if* I can) from my drives. It's spinning, so...I'm hoping that it's the drive controller on the drive itself so I might swap drive controller cards right now on my 2 drives and see if the bad one will still come up.

Yes, which was why I was going to get a Drobo -- to back up my shows and pictures (well, pictures I already have on multiple external drives because they are *very* important to me and I can't ever get them back if I were to lose them), but it's mainly the TV shows like the 10 seasons of fucking CSI that I had over the many years FUCK

I thought the point of running raid0 was for speed performance, why would you ever keep data such as movies and tv shows on two drives in raid0?
Isn't it smartest to run 2 drives in raid0 and run your OS and games off the raid0 and then all your other data on a third drive(one which is more reliable)?

I used to run virtual server/setups for dicking around/testing. For the 95849058340th time I said I was getting a Drobo for my movies, shows, pics, etc. but just never got around to it.

And ideally a RAID5 would be the best case setup you could ask for for a PC.

Well, it's not so easy to find some of those Jap. dramas with English subtitles. I'm sure I've lost some other stuff too, but it won't actually hit me until I actually need it. I do have backup copies of my dog's pics when he was a puppy, etc. on multiple external drives and computers throughout the house so I can find them. It's more of a hassle than anything because now I'll have to try and duplicate what I had before.

Raid 0 FTL once again! let me guess was it a windows array?? I wouldnt trust bill gates' raid with your dick narf. what u need to do is what i did, build yourself a fileserver, put linux on that bitch, and then your software array is nice and safe. and FFS USE RAID 5 or 6 depending on the number of drives!! Redundancy is key man or else there is no point of using an array at all!

I've got 6 1.5 TB drives in a raid 5 array and it runs tits! i've had 1 drive die on my already and i just pulled it out, and slapped in a replacemenet and kept on truckin.
