Should I overclock?

Why overclock? What are the perks to overclocking? What system information do you need from me to determine if I should overclock?

Overclocking, with adequate cooling = free speed
what's your processor sku, CPU cooling solution, case cooling, motherboard sku, RAM sku

Over clocking is limited by CPU, motherboard bus speed, and RAM speed. Some motherboards have built-in OC in the BIOS. There is always some risk associated with over clocking, but if you use the built-in option you should be okay. OC'ing is specific to architecture, so look it up by CPU.

I don't know what sku is. D: But here's some information:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 Ghz
CPU Cooling Solution: Don't know how to check that.
Case Cooling: Don't know how to check that.
Motherboard: Not very sure how to check this, but from what I can gather: Manufactured by Dell Inc. Model Number: 05VJ58
RAM: 8.00 GB (7.90 GB usable)
I know my information sucks, but I'm not very good with computer hardware yet. My computer is a Dell Inspiron N7110

EDIT: It is a laptop. I don't know if that changes anything.

I wouldn't recommend OC'ing on a notebook. The cooling is designed to be adequate for stock speeds not overclocked ones. To OC safely you need quality aftermarket cooling solutions.

I wouldn't recommend OC'ing on anything but a desktop you built yourself and you've done a little research on its capabilities.

Unfortunately for you, you cannot overclock. Laptop BIOS do not allow for such settings. That being said, maybe some custom laptops have appropriate BIOS versions that do allow it, just I've never seen it. Pretty much if you own a branded laptop (i.e. HP, Sony etc.), you cannot overclock.

In the extremely rare (I have yet to see it, nor will I even google for it), I should tell you you should never overclock anything on a laptop. The heat alone will literally burn your laptop up. Guaranteed.
