Shooting in Eaton Center ;o

I get where he is going with that.

Moral(good) people have taken religions and made the religions a moral high ground, even though historically the religions have committed acts that make them seem anything but moral.

For example Christians in the crusades sacking and pillaging Christian cities and other Christians.

Yeah I totally dig that. But if that's the case it seems like we agree then, doesn't it?

Yeah, I think cocks point is just that religion is not keeping people from nihilism. People wanting to live moral lives and have a meaning in life, keeps them from nihilism.

edit: It's probably a good thing the subject morality and ethics is avoided in most k-12 systems.

I say start with Ethics in 8th grade..lay some philosophy down @ grade 11

Most 8th & 11th graders are to stupid to grasp those concepts at those ages. I know I was.

With a less fail school system I would agree those are good ages to open up peoples minds. But we aren't even taught to critically use our brains by high school graduation.

Maybe, maybe not. Kids who go to Sunday school or some sort of private school where theology is taught will encounter these issues before the age of 18 so I see no harm in exposing public school students to it to some degree. Even if it went over the heads of some students I believe an introduction to these sorts of subjects would be beneficial to a growing person and there would certainly be some students who can really handle the material and benefit immensely from it.

Still, you're right though about the public school system being shit but that's a whole other can o warms.

i'm pretty sure that he was targeting a specific person or people, not just a crazy guy who opened fire on people Columbine style, or more people would probably be dead. Think about the Eaton Centre's food court at that time in the afternoon on Saturday. Yeah, a few people got injured, but he could have killed more had he just been a nutjob, i think.

I get what you're saying, and to a degree I would agree, but I know like myself for example, I don't need to believe in God or follow a religion to be on the correct moral path. But indeed, the stupid people in this world need religion to keep them in check, without question. But that being said, I also think there are those 1 or 2 folks who are going to head down the wrong path, regardless of what they are taught at an early age.

Yeah, that's what they said so far. The man that died was the intended target, or so they believe.

The man who was killed, who police identified as Ahmed Hassan, 24, of Toronto, is believed to have gang links, said Det. Sgt. Brian Borg.
Police have also said they think they know who the shooter was. No name released yet though.

troof. I would never argue that one needs god or religion to have a traditionally 'good' set of morals

police are pretty dumb this guy is not caught yet, baitest spot ever to shoot someone

Welcome to Summer 2012.

There was a shooting inside a Dillard's two days ago. Yesterday, we caught someone jacking himself off in public out in the parking lots.

It's a shame to hear the violence is moving up to Canada. =\
