Scrim tournament thread#2 (day/date ideas?)

I think we should plan this for a Sunday afternoon. We could start around 2 pm and have the night to completely finish this tournament(finishing would be cool!).

I think we should shoot for a date that is a bit out, so that we can promote this tournament to the community and try and get more people to show up.

We definitely should give people enough notice.

That's fine. Make a poll n00b. Easier to tally votes.

I was gonna.. but I don't think polling is enabled in this section of the forums ATM. I'll look into it later and make a poll when we have some dates or preferred days.

A sunday? Some people work early monday so if this drags on till late... people will be likely to bail.

edit: To answer forks question (even though he didnt ask), you dont have to be a captain. Just go around and ask people from the community to take part in the tournament on your team. that is all.

speaking of sundays

I dont know how many share my view on it, but the weekends are usually days when I'm out of the house for the entire day, go visit family or take a trip out of town.

2PM on a sunday, in front of a computer, is something i try to avoid.

getting home from work on a weekday around 5 or 6pm and playing until midnight is a much easier proposition.

Well, put it to a vote, if more people want weekend, then its weekend, or if they find it easier on a midweek night, then we'll do it then. No sense in all of us individually saying what time is perfect for us, just poll it whenever it gets hooked up. *looks at steve with snake eye*

People will stay for 6-12 but how many will stay on if this drags on.

If we start early on a day around 1ism-2ish we will be ton plenty before 10.

But if we are going to have it start early we can't do mon-fri, and saturday is a bad day.

Just a shot in the dark.. What if we did like sunday may 30th @ 1pm?

@keraids: I will when I get home
@fork: sundays are one of the only days most people can get on early.

Also, I think we have to come up with a way to decide on things. Having to scroll through 5 pages of redundant suggestions and '+1's doesn't seem to get us anywhere. Before we even think about setting a date, there should be a consensus on the rules, tournament and team structure first.

My question is: How do we do this? We have highly skilled and lesser skilled players. Intellects and personalities of all shapes and sizes. How do we find the happy medium? Polls? One person being a central contact? A discussion amongst TD members in the lounge? A more general discussion on IRC at a few given times for anybody remotely interested in a short one-day tournament?

I figure that if (at first) we advertise an IRC chat (Vent would be too chaotic. no?) discussion on tournament structure and regulation meeting for all interested parties (scrimming regs and randies alike), then proceed with the date, perhaps it might be easier?

Yeah steves right though this thing will be a few hours...not sure everyone can stay on for that long on a work/school night. Well then again half of TD has no life (Shortbus) so what the hell.

Not everyone will be able to make it regardless of what day we do this on. Can't please everyone. So if the majority of people want to do this on a sunday, tough luck for the ones who cannot make it on sundays. The whole thing is we need a guaranteed attendance. I dont want to see another failed tourney. If you can make it on the day it is planned for, sign up. If not, wait for the next one.

OKAY so here's an idea to assure some attendance and make this our first finished tournament.

We make it a "BYOT" tournament, where teams can sign up ahead of time and play with those who they want to. And then the day of the tournament players that don't have premade teams can draft with who shows up to play.

This way if we get 4 BYOT teams to sign up it guarantees us at least a small tournament, even if tons of people dont show up for drafted teams.

People who make their own teams will be more likely to show up and thus insures us of having teams to play this bitch!
