This doesn't really constitute a violation of the server rules - they're a little iffy on that front since they pertain more towards Counter-Strike than TF2 Trading - so if this request is denied I think that's perfectly reasonable.

This is a report for a Spy-Crab scammer. Yes, I realize the server rules don't explicit state anything about this, and I also understand that it's at the personal risk of the participant to play in such games. The reason I'm posting this is because he both does it frequently and admits to it for self-amusement ("we usually do it for lols"), which, in my opinion isn't the kind of player that encourages or contributes to the kind of atmosphere that's wanted on the Darkly servers. I'm not mad about losing - I didn't lose much anyway. Just want some input on this, and it would be helpful to know if something like this should constitute a violation of server rules or not.

It was a 3-way spy-crab, each player betting 1 ref, with the last player standing collecting the winnings. Two of said players said they knew eachother and had the same clan tag, [PoAs]. One of them won the first round and collected the 2 ref. The second round, I won, and both players subsequently left, which wasn't that surprising. The players didn't show up in Steam's "Recently Played" list of players, so I went to the Darkly server stats to see if they had changed their name or something. I found this:

http://darkly.gameme.com/search?q=[PoAs]&si=uniqueid&rc=tf5&x=0&y=0

Nearly all of the entries were associated with two accounts, suggesting that they do this often and change their names after each time. Just to see what they would say, I added one of them on Steam and had a brief conversation with him/her. Please keep in mind I said what I said solely to see how he/she would respond.

And the name that he changed it to as shown in teh chat log, [PoAs] Nrubloc, was his name when he was on the server. When I was talking to him, his name was Poonslayer, as shown in the screenshot below (it's also shown in his name history)

As I said, I'd like to know if this sort of behavior should be punishable or not per the server rules. And, as I said, if not that makes complete sense too.

Thanks.

The problem is, people choose not to have middlemen. I was on another one where they'd bet a Three-Rune Blade against a hat or something. When one won, the other just complained for a while, before just leaving...This isn't a rule, but I think it should be, or at least make Middle-manning a tip someone...and that Darkly wouldn't be responsible if they requested not having a middlemen. You can't really put a rule on this, though, because both parties are willing.

I would request a ban though :p

I remember a scammer who would start "raffles" take some weapons, then hop...and I noticed he used the same copy-paste of the raffle. He had changed names several times within an hour...People need to know to avoid these people...it's not really tough sometimes to tell that they are scamming.

Yeah, exactly. Since all parties are willing you can't really say it's a violation. But I figured I might as well make the post anyway.

So did you lose any items?
Ditching in a spy-crab is not exactly ban-worthy as long as you don't lose anything.
But it is frowned upon game-wide.

If it's set up where there is a 'suggested middleman' who you both give items too, and then they ditch, that's a scam.
But yeah, if no one loses out on anything it isn't a scam.
Not a successful one at least.

I've played as middleman to spycrabs on the servers before If I've been around.
Other than that, it's pretty much guaranteed the loser is gonna ditch without delivering.
On the odd occasion people will stay true to their word, but it isn't likely.

Hmm...
Well then with a screenshot of your trade history, It's best to take this to SteamREP.
There doesn't appear to be much of a case, but telling them will get more done than just posting it all to here.

But since both parties were willing and thus agreed to the risk, isn't it not a punishable offense in terms of SteamRep's policies?
