Kessel has the skills to be a top line guy, he just seems like he mailed it in in March. And I've heard he's the most quirky fuck ever, he's certainly no 'leader' type, except perhaps, by example.

And, I will defend Joffrey Lupul to the end. That guy deserves so much respect for what he went through last year and the way he came back fucking killing it this year. If you hate on Lupul, I'll rape you.

Lupul is a quality guy, but again, he's the sort of dude who should be on your second line and get promoted to the first when you stud is tired or hurt. First liner on a bad team, second liner on a good one. Doesn't mean he's not good. Just means the Leafs don't have anything better.

Grabovski, meh. If he can put up the numbers for the next 4 years, I'll be impressed, but I've seen enough one hit wonders to not be impressed by spurts of brilliance. I had season tickets to Alexandre Daigle's rookie season. For all the hate he gets in Ottawa, there were MANY nights when Alexei Yashin's skill made me NOT feel like I got robbed of $65 to watch awful hockey in a garbage building. He was a greedy fuck, yes, but that's because he was saving up for the Spinal Replacement he would need for carrying a garbage hockey team on his back for 3 years in a building that no one in the right mind would call professional.

I admire your passion, but you must be in your teens because you get way too protective of your team, dude. It's sports. I've met world class athletes face to face and guess what you realize. They're just dudes. Often, they're just KIDS. Be careful of putting them on too high a pedastal. They take shits and beat their cocks just like any other dude does. They just tap far finer ass than most of us do.

Not a Sens fan. Clearly, you missed that part of the convo. The Sens are doing better than they should, though. Still, this town is built on false hope. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon when they made the run they shouldn't have...
lmfao. do you know how many Leafs fan are secretly fuming because of this?

Dude, THEY GOT THERE. THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT. I mean, come on now. They were in the dance, 4 wins away from a cup, yeah they got destroyed, BUT THEY WERE THERE. this is the problem with the Canadian hockey fan and why i hated it for so many years. This is such a bizarre stance to take. Why the hell wouldn't you be a Sens fan this year? I am. Karlsson is a fucking stud.

My team is the Canucks. I know a couple of pro athletes in real life. It's called respect. I see the kind of work it takes, when a lot of you don't and just shit on them when you could never replicate it yourself. That's why I'm overprotective, it's not a 'team' thing'.

also, i do agree with most of what you say. i've been saying they should do what they do in european soccer, and relegate the Leafs to the AHL.

Apparently. I'm ALMOST 6 2 and my doctor says my ideal weight is between 185 and 195 lbs. Fucked if I know why, but she's Chinese and knows everything. Every other doctor I see seems to be retarded, whereas she has the solutions I need before I have to ask for them.

Still, I'm 182 - 185 lbs of bad weight. When I was playing soccer more frequently, I was 178 lbs of "better" weight, so it's more than just the number. I THINK that goal weight is reflective of you being in shape. IE you could be 185 with little muscle and lots of fat, but still not be as healthy as someone who is 175 lbs of toned muscle and less fat.

Still, our society suffers from horrible eating patterns. We eat too much, and often, it's complete trash that we're eating as well.

Example: Adults are only supposed to eat a MAXIMUM of 5 ounces of meat a day, and preferably not red.

Do you want to know what 5 ozs of meat is at pretty much EVERY restaurant and fast food chain in North America?

The child's portion.

If you take good care of your body, your heart, and you can do 45 minutes of cardio, I wouldn't be concerned unless you have blood pressure problems. People who are ripped are usually at higher risk of stroke because of high blood pressure, even as young as your early 20s. Again, it depends on a lot of things. Your diet, your habits, your genetics.

. Why the hell wouldn't you be a Sens fan this year?

Where I come from, we call that a bandwagon jumper. I don't "Become a fan" one year and "Not be a fan" the next. My first hockey team was the Red Wings, because Ottawa didn't have a team at that point in time. (and for the record, the Wings sucked that year.)

Then, Ottawa got a team, so they became my "Hockey Mistress". Not the love of my life, but I still lay pipe in her anyhow.

The team is solid. Alfredsson is a great leader and will be in the organization for life. Spezza is blooming, Phillips has realized he's old, slow and there to teach Jared Cowen how to play. Karlsson is on fire and if he doesn't get nominated for the Norris, it will be the biggest travesty since Alfredsson getting passed over for the Lady Byng in favour of a player who never showed up to accept it. (The even bigger travesty if they just keep on giving it to the guy, which is beyond retarded.)

Still, my first love was the Red Wings. I'm not gonna bail on them now because Lidstrom is getting old and they need to retool the shed. That's just sad. You pick a team, you stick with it. The Sens are a team I know a lot about because I live here and this town is fuckin obsessed. Only the Leafs hang off the nuts of their hockey team more than Ottawans do. The Sens aren't a BAD team, but a good 30% of their forwards are glorified AHLers. They've done well to this point, but if they make it to the playoffs, they will probably get edumicated because they are too young and inexperienced. Still, even making the playoffs is pure gravy at this point.

Then again.... If anyone can make a bunch of role players champions, a Detroit trained coach like Paul MacLean can. Without the "Lunchpail" line of Darren McCarty, Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby, the Red Wings would be down a few Stanley Cups. Not because they're superstars, but because they had jobs to do, and they did them well. Win faceoffs. Dump the puck. Kill the penalties. Forecheck and backcheck.

It's not superstar work, but you need people who WILL do those things and accept that role on the team.

EX: Chris Kelly. Great acquisition for Boston because he does all those things without complaint. Boston get Kelly, Boston win Stanely Cup. Did he make the team a contender? No. But he did the dirty work, and he did it well. That lets more offensive players worry about being offensive players. It may not seem like much, but it's the difference between WANTING to get there, and getting there.

It's called respect. I see the kind of work it takes, when a lot of you don't and just shit on them when you could never replicate it yourself.

It's easier than you think. I don't believe in things that I "Can't" do, save maybe menstruate and give birth. Still, my heroes are people like that one clean cop who hates his job and all the filthy fucks he works with, but does it anyhow for shit money because he knows how horrible things would be if he left. Or the alcoholic who has every reason to get shitfaced and throw his life away, but doesn't because he knows he is capable of living a better life, even if there is no pot of gold at the end of that rainbow.

Sure a pro athlete can do things that I can't, but Gestapo soldiers were also capable of doing things I couldn't due to living a very disciplined lifestyle. Not all that glitters is gold, and not all professional athletes are worthy of my respect. I don't give respect due to a position or a title someone holds. Lots of rich people are still pieces of shit as individuals. There is no "status" that gives you carte blanche in my world to get free respect under the assumption that you did good to get to where you are.

The reality of this day and age is often the exact opposite.

Haven't you ever heard of that test?

You have 3 choices to choose a leader for your country.

An Alcoholic

A Womanizer

A devout Christian

Which do you choose?

The alcoholic is Winston Churchill.

The Womanizer is Bill Clinton.

The Devout Christian is Adolf Hitler.

Adolf Hitler was also a vegetarian who had the utmost of respect for women and loved dogs. Didn't stop him from being a complete fuckin nutjob moron, though. :S

also, i do agree with most of what you say. i've been saying they should do what they do in european soccer, and relegate the Leafs to the AHL.

I totally agree. I'm actually impressed that you said that. It creates competition and punishes those fail. It has it's faults (it's harder to maintain player loyalty, as many players have a clause that if the team gets relegated, their contract is nullified, but you gotta take the good with the bad.)

lol, come on dude, it's easier for us to sit here and talk about how it's easier without doing the 8 hour training days in the summer, 7 days a week. i'm talking guys who have a chance to play in the big leagues, not guys who are content with playing for the men's league until he has no knees.

Your comparisons are just a little extreme. Sports followers, this entire discussion is as shallow as it gets, frankly. Bringing up the Gestapo has absolutely no relevance here.

My point on respect is obviously one has to work really hard to get good at whatever field they choose, whether it's hockey or engineering, marine biology, managing a chain of Tim Horton's. You have, what, 22 roster spots in the NHL available per squad? That's not many spots available for the tens of thousands who wish to play in the NHL, the hundreds and hundreds who have the skill to play in the NHL. It takes A LOT of work to get to the big leagues. Yeah, you'll get your Scott Gomez's, your Vernon Wells, it happens in every industry. The retiring Crown attorney sees a brilliant young lawyer who works for him, and sets him on the fast track to replace him, only to watch him crash and burn.

I personally just feel that fans could show a little more respect in this country, for the national sport, mainly for young players.

There is no "status" that gives you carte blanche in my world to get free respect under the assumption that you did good to get to where you are.

that's the thing though. with athletes, except for those freaks, the work they put in IS TANGIBLE!!!! this isn't university, it's not theory. we don't get to see it, but it's there.

but I see I'm probably not going to change your mind on this. Good debate though, we should do this again when the Leafs win the Cup next year....

just saw this. These are the type of guys I am talking about who deserve the respect, not Jeff fucking Carter or Alexi Kovalev. The unheralded dudes. My favourite Canuck is Manny Malhotra. Dude just scored a beauty of a goal against the Kings tonight. He didn't showboat his celebration, in fact, he did nothing, just went back to the bench to get ready for his next shift. These guys have to work so hard to get to the NHL, because there's always a guy who could be/or is better than you.

It's an agree to disagree situation. It's a matter of taste / opinion, which is something everyone is entitled to. I just don't put people on pedastals because they are in the public eye. Doesn't mean I don't respect a lot of them, I just don't ooh and aah over it.

Word. When I was 14, I was playing in my first year of AAA baseball, and we were AWFUL. Long story short, the coach was the father of current Habs d-man Chris Campoli, his father and little brother were the biggest douches in the world. Yet, those few times I talked to Chris when he came to watch his bro, he was the most humble guy in his family without question. I think it takes that kind of humility to get to the show for at least 90% of players.

and word cock, too much time on my hands yesterday :knockout:

I've haerd interviews with him in them and spoken to people who has spoken to him candidly. They have nothing but good things to say about the guy. He's a pretty down to earth dude, which is a welcome change to douchebags like Mike Greene. That dude is a Twat with a capital T.
