or maybe they are not working because their jobs are being shipped off overseas or simply shut down

know what ghost towns are?

taxes are a form of wealth sharing, taxes have existed since the beginning of time, this is not a new concept

remember that the fundamental problem of THE MARKET is that projects which do not provide a financial return will not be invested in. This is why the government exists, and why they take your money, and put it into projects that do not return a financial profit but offer a social value.

you do not live on an island ice! you live in new york fucking state, how narrow minded are you towards social balance!?!

Im not putting down taxes idiot... Im saying my 35 percent I pay now (or w/e it is) is fine. Im not willing to put another 5%-10% for social reform. Get rid of illegals, make the free loaders work, and in turn you have less people on welfare unemployment, and with healthcare. Its not rocket science.

And yes I live in NYC the 2nd biggest liberal state in the US. Most liberals here are yuppies with mommys and daddys trust funds... The people protesting have mac books and ipads. These people are looking for social reform and hand out from big corporations. You have no idea what goes on here the news is one sided (FOX, CNN, ABC, NBC, CNBC u name it..)You want to know how the protest are ask I have seen it first hand. Pot leafs and utter disrespect to police and the working class. Its gross and some of them im sure are on unemployement which my tax dollars are paying for. Hey I got laid off because of outsourcing and it sucks, but i didnt sit in a park and wait for a job I LOOKED AND FOUND ONE.

My roommate works for a guild housing program(social program to provide homes for those on welfare). None of the recipients work, and they have straight up said it is because it will lower their welfare checks. I.E. Welfare is keeping them from looking for any sort of employment. On top of that almost all of them are users or dealers(meth/heroin), have large families(many children, who do not live with them and that they do not take care of), or have been in and out of the prison system.

No, they are not on welfare because China took their jobs. They're on welfare because they are low life leeches on society.

If we are going to talk about doing whats best for society we should be discussing removing them from societies equation all together.

The population of the world just hit >7 billion. Far to many people exist in the world community for these social systems to work.

Sure some of them might work in Canada well(health care) but the US is not Canada. We have a population ten times larger then you. It is unpractical.

Healthcare is the same thing, if everyone has access to healthcare, then more people are healthy. Healthy people make better workers, they take less sick days, and they are motivated. A motivated worker is a happy worker, and a happy person is much more inclined to spread good will while climbing the ladder of success in an orderly fashion, not being a cut-throat out of despiration while coughing up blood because the hospital wouldn't treat him.

Which is why almost every full time job provides health care options for its workers. DURRRR.

If they don't work, why should society pay the price of keeping them healthy?

Yea fuck the self-employed working people. No one cares if all of the independent workers get cancer and die right? They deserve it for not making enough money to support themselves for months on end with-out work while paying for w.e treatment they need.

Just an example of your myopic view, not everyone works for a corporation, not everyone should have to JUST for benefits.

If it's so easy then why are 63 percent of un-insured Americans self-employed or working in a small business?
I'm sure it's because the health insurance companies are just so perfect and never deny people's claims ever right?

(stats are from EBRI)

you shouldn't be surprised when Cuba is kicking your ass in something as simple as national Health care.

Cuba's population is 1/33th the size of America's. Just as Canada's is 1/10th. Probably plays a part in why its much easier to formulate and run a national healthcare program, don't you think?

Look at India's national health care program then talk shit about America's current situation.

And of course there are evil heath care companies who will defer the sick, but then again I am pretty sure I have read about you're own Canadian government doing that to people in rare instances.

People come from all around the world(Many from Canada too, just ask Omission) to America for its hospitals and clinics. It may not be the cheapest, but its the best. And I'd rather have good care then free care.

It's true. I would go to America for health care if I had the money.

A family friend of mine had brain cancer last year. Long story short...she went to the states to get better health care, and is now cancer free from a risky/expensive poeration.

India? People don't trust the use of preventative medicine there, this lack of "trust" in the health care system is more of the issue. Plus the fact they have an extremely small middle class there.
The Cuba comment was a low ball, and was meant to be.

yea it's so rare that I've never heard of anyone ever being denied any form of life threatening care in Canada and I've lived here for 20+ years. Yet my grandmother who lives in the states has been denied Chemo/radiation and other lfrom their health care provider. Cool Beans.

lol, of course people run to the states. We don't approve drugs fast enough for certain diseases, and also don't push people out of a surgery slot because Mr. impatient wants his surgery before his summer vacation. I also know people running to Mexico for treatment, does that mean they have better health care then the states?

More importantly the Conservatives (*cough*Mike Harris) in Canada have fucked our health care system over permanently, no full time nurses, closing of hospitals, Cutting health spending, and, freezing salaries. All of these things are a deterrent to new nurses and doctors in Ontario.

I'm sorry to hear that Cock. But I am not so certain having a national health care system would change that. Especially with how corrupt sectors of the US government are. I don't believe more government is the answer and I still don't believe a socialized health care system taking care of 330+ million people can work.

If anything more states should adopt their own health care policies such as hawaii did. That way if the people want it, it will be voted in, and those who don't wish to pay the increased taxes for it can move to another state.

This is because these people refuse to go out and get independent health insurance. I used to be self employed. I had health insurance. I held myself accountable, not demanding others make up for my shortcomings. It was MY responsibility to take care of MYSELF, not YOUR responsibility.

Cock I love you...but America has far and away the best health care in the world. Nobody even comes close. Everybody from all over the world comes to America for the best doctors, the best specialists, the best care. Unlike in Cuba, doctors in America have to go through 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of grad, 1 year of internship and several years of residency before becoming a doctor. And why? In order to proving the world's leading medical care. This is why it costs more in America. Of course third world health care will be inexpensive relative to America, many of their doctors are less knowledgeable that what is even required of nurses in America.

Nope.

I think it's important for people to know how much of our (American) taxes ALREADY do towards health care. Medicare accounts for 13.1%, Medicaid 7.9%, Health Fund 2%. That's 23% of our taxes going towards health care nationally, and this doesn't even include state taxes. In California I also pay into MediCal, along with so many other social programs like planned parenthood. And this isn't enough? Obama (not the people) wants more? This is ridiculous...
