[REVIEW] Batman: Arkham Asylum

Story

- The game starts out, playing like a movie introduction would (you just watch), with credits rolling as Batman brings The Joker in (via Bat Mobile) to the Arkham Asylum
- The Joker breaks loose and wreaks havoc (along with many villains)
- Batman is now trapped inside Arkham Asylum and must find his way to The Joker to stop him
- There are many mini missions to do along the way though, among them helping trapped doctors

Graphics

- To be short, the best I've seen any Batman game
- I've got it for PC (downloaded, tee-hee :)), and I've maxed it out with 2 8800 Ultras not running in SLI-mode. One is for graphics, and the other for PhysX, which this game supports, and executes incredibly well
- Lighting is superb, and matches the dark history of the Asylum very well. Every room has it's very own, unique atmosphere, and the lighting brings in a very real element that makes this game very immersive
- I'm running DX 10, as I'm hardware limited, so I don't know if DX 11 is supported, however the config file had a command line disabling/allowing DX 10, so I'm thinking DX 11 isn't an option.

Gameplay

- Movements are very fluid
- Camera control is really well done - you will seldom find yourself disoriented and loooking for that 'perfect' angle while trying to run/jump/fight when the time(s) call for it
- Controls are fairly straight forward, but with that being said, you must get used to a few new features this game provides (re: Detective mode to scan for evidence and find ways out/around obstacles, Batman's trademark zipline thing etc).
- I've since switched from the keyboard/mouse combo to the always trusty XBOX 360 Controller, and it works wonders for this game
- The game provides preset controls for the XBOX 360 controller, as it's natively supported, so no missed button(s)/combos etc.

Sound

- Simply put - STUNNING
- Every room has it's own atmosphere, and the sound is incredibly distinct in that nature
- Atmospheric sounds are abundant, well placed and well chosen to add realistic elements to every space you find yourself in
- Ambient sounds are also abundant, well placed and well chosen, and really add realism (as per Gotham City) to the world
- Soundtrack is incredible (I run Dolby Digital 5.1 for non-fps games). The soundtrack ranges from very quiet, almost ambient, to very loud and powerful as the situation/mood calls for it. Very movie-like, and clear - they didn't cheap out on it

Conclusion

- If you're a console-style game fan, let alone a Batman fan, then go ahead and buy it. I really prefer to download and try first, however if you choose to support the industry, I had to say this isn't a waste of money. I clearly understand why this game got such high ratings across gaming sites. Good game, and I intend to finish it :)

Cheers!
