ok, so i got a shitty hp computer (my dad has a few lying around his office, doing nothing), and i've moved my old hard drives into it and that's all fine. but im just wondering what to do with my ram sticks. this computer comes with a whopping two sticks of 256 MB.

i was using three sticks in my last computer, all 512 MB. will this hp be able to handle all three?

your motherboard will have a cap on how much memory you can use, and if you run 32 bit operating system 3.25 gb is the limit regardless.

You may only be able to use 2gb however, depending how old that mobo is. Regardless if white rams 4gb in your slot (more likely he only has 256mb to offer) or not.

the mobo might even be capped at one gig, i wouldent waste electricity running a computer like that, but maybe try out freenas??? You can share your hard drives on the windows network and a few other things with it.

Welcome to the TD forums man! Sersiouly, if u want to make a real budget PC to play CSS, we got mroe than enough geek-minded power to help u.

Of course u can buy a cheap pre-made comp from Future Shop/Best Buy. Thats not a bad route if u want to pay less than $500 for a PC. Just make sure there isn't an integrated Vid Card or else it will be junk.

You can always disable the integrated video card and get another one. is not hard :).

BJr ... I think he is asking if his previous memory will work in the "new computer". My bet is that if it is NOT HP, the memory will not work. HP are anal and lock their computer parts to work only with their stuff.
THEN if by any chance the memory is from HP (or by a miracle that HP comp can actually get other brands as well), if your motherboard supports it ... it will work.

THE END!
