[poll] Toronto Darkly Pay-2-Play Tournament! Your Thots TD Community?

This has just been brought up in the TD Lounge. Toronto Darkly has hosted a few tournaments in the past, and we were looking to do another one in the future. However, there were problems such as:

-Teams/Players not making scheduled matches
-No incentives from winning
-Tournaments falling through half-way

To help solve these problems, TD has thought about hosting a Pay-2-Play Tournament. In essence, you and your team will pay a registration fee. This can be anywhere from $2 per player to $5 or whatever depending on how much the majority of us deems is enough. Why do we want to slap a fee for participation? Here's why:

1. A small monetary investment of $2 or $5 is greater than $0. By paying, we hope to eliminate players who talk the talk without walking the walk. By investing your little amount in, it reduces the chances of not appearing for set matches.

2. Money + Donations go a long way, and TD wants to give some excitement back to the community by offering REAL prizes from playing. Imagine just 20 people sign up for a tournament for $5. Thats $100 for prizes.

3. A registered tournament makes it more serious, more competitive, and equally more fun. (Who likes poker for no money? exactly.) It makes it fun for serious participants and in the end, TD members get to know regulars and community members much better.

So what have you, will you be willing to provide the pittance in your pocket to win a mouse, mug, shirt, mousepad, etc?

Please provide CONSTRUCTIVE thoughts and ideas if you have any. Do not post "paying money sucks". We are not talking about tournament itself yet either so no "lets have this type of tourney" etc.

Please just let us know if you would be willing to pay an amount over paypal to particpate in a tourney. If not, state why, and what would be a better alternative.

i voted $2, but maybe $10 a head is better to make the pot a little sweeter for prizes also makes a bigger commitment, maybe take %50 of all registration fees and put them directly into funding server (that is a very good rate for fund raising).

organize the tourney fully before hand, ie complete schedule of matches available at registration (your team no-show, automatic DQ). i like prizes instead of cash, td branded shit, like the mousepad i think auron has would be slick.

I voted $5.00 , it's a start. i think $10.00 would be good. for prizes/donations. And who wouldn't want to rock a TD| T-shirt or member hat???? it's l33t shit man.

Also, absolutely zero rescheduling. This fucks up a tourney quicker than you can shake a stick.

I've made the exact same post a while ago and it got shot down. I put 10$. 5$ is really nothing. So what could a 100-200$ prize be for a team? it would have the be divided amongst everyone right? lol....anyways I'm down

idk, a pay to play tourney might not work out so well. remember the Skrim server we had? teams were only 5v5 and that didnt even come close to working out.

Yeah, this definitely wouldn't be a 'make-your-own' team tournament as it would be unfair and pointless.... need to have another draft or just draw names from a hat like the first failed tourney...

but need to have the money submitted before the draft process as some people might not like their team and refuse to pay which would also be stupid....

and yes, the times need to be set-up by the tournament moderators and no changing allowed... I say we draft an extra person per team just incase someone will not be able to attend on a particular night...

I'm paying $10.00 per month plus $2.00 per team kill and now I will pay $5.00 for a tournament. There got to be a prize for the noob team as well. I suck but I am down for it.

I'm up for it don't care how much. We can make some cheap shirts or some lame buttons for the nubs who loose. And I dunno for the winners depends how much is raised maybe your own custom TD shirt with name and Logo? Any other ideas beside shirts? Mugs? Mouse pads?
