Piece of dirty smelly horse shit!

It figures that even though I fix one problem, something new will always come up.

Here it goes.
The upgrades to my comp work fine. I can run BC2 on the highest res without any problems, I can run L4D2 smoothly as well and my graphics on CSS are super (as far as CS goes, at least...)
But aside from that, CSS wont run properly.

My ping is flying all over the place from 20 to 160 down to 50 and back up to 400 and back down to 10... it's just everywhere. But what doesn't make sense is that none of my other games do this...

So I went ahead and made sure all my drivers were up to date, and I even had Taylor find me a few to install, but it didn't change anything.

So then I ran an anti-virus scan on my computer. Everything is fine.
SO THEN I EVEN REBOOTED THE BITCH A FEW TIMES.
Still no help.

Last thing I tried was unplugging my fucking router for a few minutes.

Nothing. Is. Working.

Someone PLEASE help me before I chuck this shit out the window.

maybe shit internet ?? shitty router ?? secure wireless network? maybe neighbours leeching your intenets ? run antivirus in safe mode ?

yeah i had that problem yesterday or the day before, i think it's just the server poltergeist having some fun. speaking of ROUTER, if it's wireless that could cause such problems. especially if you're one of those noobs who leaves the user:pass as admin:admin and lets your savvy neighbour enter settings and port forward so that he can download porn quicker through your connection. not that i would know about such going-ons, but i've HEARD they happen ;)

go to start, type in cmd in the search bar and hit enter, on that cmd window, type tracert 174.137.53.202 and post the result here. maybe bad routing on the isp part to the cs server.

and make sure no "stranger" that can access to your wireless if you're using that. Update the router fireware.

but what are you using? dsl or cable?

You cannot access a router unless you are connected by LAN, not wirelessly. Secondly, it's most likely not you - I had the same shit happen to me in l4d2 the other night. Personally I think it's steams networks, they might doing some overhaul.

Also, if you have any Launch Options in css, remove them. With the new updates, launch options (especially shit to do with DXlevel n graphics) do NOT play nice with the game.

No you can't. Maybe you kids have routers from the 90's lol. Any new (from the last 4-6 years at least) router, you cannot. It's a built-in, automatic feature.

Asus rt-n12, if I remember there's a way to disable wireless client from accessing the router gateway but yes, you can still access it with wireless. I was even updating the router firmware to a mini DDR-WRT on wireless ...

I've just setup a new Linksys and Dlink both let me wirelessly into the setup pages with out issues.

They both have an option to disable that feature, but the default setting is to allow it.

yeah the wireless networks i've set up allow wireless access to the router, unless configured otherwise...

if you can play BC2 like melted butter on high settings and you lag in CS then i would agree that your connection's licking the bag, or your network adapter is fucked...

Holy fuck that's insanely insecure, who the fuck would let that happen lol

Anyway, though I clearly stand corrected, I've always had the fortunate experience of working with routers from both D-Link and Linksys that do not allow that, and have it disabled by default. I'm glad to know this can happen though :D
